No insurance and need help

Postby BPDKIM » Thu Jul 12, 2012 3:24 pm

I lost my insurance last October. I have a job now that doesn't offer insurance. I desperatly need to return to therapy but can't afford the cost. I do not qualify for medicaid because I work! Its rediculous, I make $12K a year. How in the world can I get treatment? I have googled and researched everything for weeks and have run out of options. Anyone have any ideas at all?
Thank you all so much.

Hi Kim,

Sorry to hear of your dilemma.. It's hard! For prescriptions quite few places ie. Wal Mart, Kroger have many generics you can ge for $4.00.. If you're currently taking meds and can't get it in a generic form take a look at http://www.bridgestoaccess.com/ . If it's not there contact the drug manufacturer they should all have programs for low income and uninsured.

Check with Social Services to see if they know of any programs.

Google low income clinics in your community. There should be some. Do the same for therapists.. If you live in a larger city with a University that offers a Psychology program often they will have reduced fee services.

When you google also try using "sliding scale"

I dont know were you live, but there are some mental health clincs for people who make little money and no insurance. i used to go to one, i even got my meds there. Ask someone at the hospital in your area, they might know a place. good luck.
Caution, dyslexic writer ahead.
