hey
has anyone else been denied hospital admissions to psych wards because of their borderline diagnosis? if so, do you think this is okay?

No and No.
If you weren't admitted it's probably because they did't see you as a threat to yourself or others, and had nothing to do with bpd.
While legal procedures vary by state, a suicide threat virtually guarantees a 72-hour admission to a medical facility: specifically a psychiatric ward for secure observation. Automatic admission for suicide threats is a policy intended to protect the patient from self-harm while protecting the public as well. Such policies also protect medical providers from potential legal liability.
I'm assuming you're in the U.S.

I live in Australia. They say that borderlines are undervalued in psych wards and that it makes them worse. What is perceived as a threat to yourself?

I just recently was discharged from hospital in Perth. I made a serious attempt on my life and was admitted after I recovered in ICU. I felt ,for me, it took an actual attempt to get into hospital as I have never been offerd admission before. Although I met people in hospital that had just turned up at emergnecy and were admitted immediately. I have never heard of anyone not being admitted because they had BPDFor the record I was diagnosed with BPD in hospital and they allowed me to stay.

I always made an actual attempt and I wasn't an adult, so no.
Luckily, my diagnosis is OFFICIALLY mood disorder NOS. The PD diagnoses are just 'rule out' on my chart, so no one will ever have to worry.
We're all mad here.

Curious, why better to have mood disorder over personality disorder diagnosis?
Caution, dyslexic writer ahead.
Spell check please

yes ish.
When I was first admitted to hosp the staff couldnt do enough for me.eventually after 2 weeks i was dx bpd and was discharged.A few months later I was admitted back in hosp via the psych nurse but it was obv i was not welcome on the ward.the junior dr told me ppl like me had a personality disorder not a mental illness so i didnt belong on the ward and that i just needed 2 control my emotions.she said when i am sad i make myself happy.its not hard to do.later that day the psychiatrist discharged me,with that junior dr smirking like a bitch.i told them all where 2 go 2 be honest.I was there 4 hrs in total.
I have been offered 2 go back in but I refuse now.I know they wont section me.

It keeps my health care provider willing to pay for my therapy and medicine. And with it as my official diagnosis, I don't get treated with the suspicion that people with PDs get from time to time.
We're all mad here.
