This is my first post, so I thought I'd maybe recommend some things that help me lately. I was just diagnosed borderline, among other things. I watched the movie "Greenberg" recently, I didn't know what it was about at first but found myself connecting and understanding his actions in it. Ben Stiller plays an adult in the film, just got out of a mental hospital and in my opinion, shows a lot of BPD signs. He eventually meets a woman which of course becomes turbulent and difficult, the way he treats her and reacts to those in his life is very borderline. It also shows the effects it has on those around him and how they react and treat him for it. That's what I was able to gather from seeing it, at least.
A lot of reviews I read on boards for the film made me sad because they don't understand he has a personality disorder, they just found his character unlikeable and labeled him a jerk, sadly because they just dont understand what he's going through is a real illness, or failed to recognize an illness at all. But I recognized his actions/reactions all too well. Almost right away.
I'm not sure if they said he had borderline in the film, but I do suspect it. I'm going to purchase it today along with "Prozac Nation" and the book "Stop Walking on Eggshells". I already own "Girl, Interrupted" on film. White Oleander is also another great film, the mother shows borderline traits in my opinion.
If you haven't seen "Greenberg" and you are borderline, I highly recommend it! I responded to it really well. and please, if there's any books or films you'd like to recommend here, don't be shy.
this is my first post, sorry if I rambled. I look forward to having this place as somewhere I can come to talk, learn, a little sanctuary if you will.
