Exercise

Postby Ad33 » Sun Apr 29, 2012 7:29 pm

As someone with an ongoing, though sort of manageable these days, eating disorder I get obsessive about exercise. I used to push my body to breaking point and though I don't do that any longer compulsive thinking sets in whenever I hit the gym.

At the same time I find that exercise helps my mental state, calms me down and lifts my mood.

Due to a back injury caused by overdoing weights at the gym I haven't been there recently. I've been doing Pop Pilates You Tube videos (type in Pop Pilates) and walking a bit. I'd like to do more but can't be bothered and don't have the money to do dance or other classes at present, which I'd like to try.

What do other people do exercise wise, to relax or energise themselves?

Heya

I'm exactly the same as you, ongoing ED so exercise is a dangerous thing for me, I overdo it and damage myself, use it as a form of self-injury. Plus when I'm hypomanic I don't feel pain or muscular exhaustion AT ALL.

So instead, I have to avoid it if I possibly can. It's probably best to try doing that, avoiding it, or you'll damage yourself, and that's just self-harm in another guise. Just my two cents.
