Very excited!

Postby LAmourToujours » Thu Apr 26, 2012 6:12 pm

This Tuesday I enrolled in DBT with DBT counseling. I also receive coaching via phone. It requires a 6 month commitment (minimum) but I'm so excited. I've been in a lot of therapy, but never felt understood. The counselor only works with borderlines and has been working with us for 18 years! She said I have to pick 5 goals I want to work on in counseling for 6 months. I'm so excited! I start group on Monday!!!!

Congrats! We can be rookies together! I just got the call, yesterday, that I'm in for a Coles Notes DBT program as well, starting two weeks from now. It sounds like you're already getting a start on things, so let me know what kinds of things to expect, okay? :)

Yay!! We can be!! So far, I've had to fill out mood inventories online (to chart my progress) and we're designing my diary card so it makes sense to me. I don't have a lot of the self harming behaviors anymore, but a lot of anxiety and phobias. Also, I used one phone coaching session already during a panic attack. She told me to count my breaths and emailed me a copy of a meditation CD. I signed an agreement that should I want to cut I would call first, and I couldn't call after (I don't cut anymore anyway). Also, an agreement on the rules of group - no outside socializing, must arrive sober, no discussing of what could be other's triggers, arrive on time, etc. She also said if I couldn't intervene on my own behalf with my family or physicians etc, she would assist me. She said her goal is to not let me drown in frustration and she will work as hard as I do to get me better!
