Diagnosis?

Postby InnerWorld » Wed Jan 04, 2012 4:01 pm

Hi, I'm new to the forum.

I have been struggling to find answers to my issues for many years but only recently visited the doctor. I got as far as being told I was suffering from depression (no surprises there) and being given Citalopram and a number for a therapy clinic, but didn't take it any further than that. Online tests show me as being at high or very high risk for most disorders, but the only ones that I found I could relate to most were BPD followed by C-PTSD.

I know online tests can be unreliable and at the moment I feel like a bit of an imposter for being here without a concrete diagnosis...but on the other hand, I'm not sure where else to go. So I was wondering, how many people here are undiagnosed/self-diagnosed?

Diagnosed. Tried and true.

But - I found myself here, and brought it to my therapist's attention - and she wholeheartedly agreed with me, and told me that although they would not put it in my chart, due to the stigma of future service providers, that this is what I am.

Part of knowing what you are is finding yourself, and here we are.

I was diagnosed by a psychiatrist, and this was later confirmed by a psychologist.

However, before I was diagnosed, I'd read a little about BPD, and spoken to people who were diagnosed with it, and suspected I might have it. If you do end up seeing a therapist, it'd probably be no harm to bring it up, and tell them why you think you might have BPD.

I'm not diagnosed with BPD either but I believe this is what disorder I'm suffering from.
Depending on your age and healthcare system they may be reluctant to diagnose you - like in my situation.
I've just turned 18 and they believe it's high anxiety levels and adolescent emotion dysfunction, but i'm being treated with Dialectal Behaviour Therapy and have all the symptoms of BPD.
I feel like an imposter too but these forums really help me and getting insight on how to deal with triggers and how other people cope with their disorder, i wouldn't worry too much about it it's quite like a support group :)
I don't believe borderline people are weak, I believe we're strong people and we just got lost somewhere, I know my strong person, my normal self-esteem and rational mind is in there somewhere, i'm just trying to find her :)

Hello and welcome.
I'm your resident mod for the forum.
That being said, I'm a confirmed diagnosis...
However, I self-diagnosed first. I had a tendency to read the DSM and I just fit.
My shrinks didn't believe me for a while. I was diagnosed bipolar first, and BPD later (co-morbidly).

I'm sure we have lots of self-diagnosed people around here.
It's not a matter of what the doctors say, sometimes, it's about having somewhere you feel safe to talk.
If this is where you feel safe, this is where you belong, either until you're diagnosed BPD or as something else.
