I have a friend who has bpd and she regularly has suicidal idealisations. She always talks about it and says the thing she wants to do to kill herself.
She has attempted suicide/self harm a few times but every time it is a drug od. I think it is because she knows that there is time to save her should she change her mind. Not like jumping off a bridge which is pretty final. If that makes sense.
Mostly after the attempts she say she was just sad and that it wasn't that she wanted to die but didn't know what else to do.
I struggle to find the words to help her and no matter how many times she try to hurt/kill herself and regrets it she cannot get over the suicidal idealisation even though she knows she doesn't want to die really.
Have any of you had this problem? What helpped you? Is there anything I can to to help her get over it?

Yes, I do have this.. Think about it all the time..
I believe what your friend is trying to say is.. She doesn't want to die, but death may be a better alternative to living a life in emotional pain... <---- I relate to that VERY well.
She's lucky to have a friend in you, as I have to deal with it myself.
Does it help her with you being around? ie. brighten her spirits? take her mind off of things?
In regards to the suicidal ideation ... There is nothing for you to do.. You can be a friend and encourage her to see a therapist, checkin to a hospital, offer to go with her, visit... Just be there for her...
