compulsions

Postby applepear » Mon Dec 19, 2011 4:10 am

I'm having a little difficulty getting over addictions to alcohol and junk food. I started DBT Wed. thank goodness. I've had wine every day, but since Wed. I have not had a single drink. I'm starting with that, then the junk food. I don't want to go too fast b/c I don't want to crash and go backwards. I'm not an alcoholic or have an eating disorder, this only started when I left DBT a couple of years ago. I'm not a real addict, but the BPD causes me to be impulsive with a million different things and go away when I've been treated for a long while with DBT...

Anyone have this issue, not addictions but compulsions?

Yeah.

I think it's normal for people with BPD to have transient "addictions". That's what I tell my therapist they are.

I've had problems with pot, and then stimulants.

I currently don't do anything except drink alcohol, but that's once or twice every two weeks (I still live in a college town). I don't see anything successive about it, but if I'm going to be completely honest, right now I'm living with a problem of overeating.

Ugh. Nice.

yeah I definitely have a recurrent compulsion to go out drinking a lot. not an alcoholic by any means, I just really really need to go out and be uninhibited and talk to people and run around having tons of fun. often.

I did this last night. I'm pretty sure it would have bid me well to have stayed at home.

It was a sh!tshow of a night of debauchery.

Oh well. Happens to the best of us, right?
