So I have been thinking about going to see someone about possibly having BPD. I have almost all of the traits that describe it. My only problem is I dont have insurance. There is a volunteer medical clinic in my area but I dont know if they could really help me. It would just be nice to have some answers and a solution. I just feel so crazy right now......I dont want to make the mistake of going to someone who isnt familiar with BPD who will just try to prescribe me anitdepressants. Can anyone offer me any guidance or advice?

I say go to the clinic, and explain to them the exact nature of your mental problems. You should describe your symptoms to whoever you see there, but don't suggest your own diagnosis by name because they might not take it seriously. But tell them what you're going through and how your problems are affecting you, how long you've had them, and what you think would help you. If they prescribe you medication, you don't have to accept it. Tell them you don't think medication is the answer, unless you are interested in trying some.

If you're in the US, then most medical clinics do not have specialists on board on the daily that would be able to diagnose BPD. They would however, have a crisis nurse and SW who would help you get in contact with a program that WILL help with these issues.
It is very rare to receive free therapy, and that's what the BPD illness requires. Will you have any insurance in the future? Can you apply for a Medical Card with medicaid? Because it seems that this is where you want to start.
Even if they DO prescribe you medication, it will sometimes help with the symptoms, but it won't cure the BPD. I am on 4 different meds, which help me manage my daily life while working through therapy and working full time.
I hope the best for you!!! Welcome to the forum! We hope that you find it supportive and helpful!
