hating this time of year

Postby thefool » Fri Sep 30, 2011 4:14 am

Does anyone else ever hate the season of their birthday, Christmas or New Years ? Just this time of year maybe if i was surrounded by love i would appreciate it more but after hard falls i prefer to skip through it the thought of my birthday this weekend is making me very anxious and depressed which sounds so selfish its making me really snappy and want to hide away. The whole end of the year to the next is a bad season :(

I understand you. My birthday is late October. I spend it alone every year. I will this year. I hate the holiday season that follows shortly after. I'm at work and can't really talk but I just wanted to let you know that I understand.

Christmas is the worst time of the year for me. I cannot cope during Christmas. I have tried to kill myself every Christmas for around 4 years. This is the first year I have actually been diagnosed and I'm on meds, I'm still scared of Christmas! I have no idea why. It just fills be with dread and horror.

No, I get THAT bit, I just don't get why people hate this time of the year? What's happening in October, is there a party I'm not invited to?

I LOVE this time of the year. It's autumn, you start doing things to get ready for winter, you chop wood, you pick fruit, you pickle stuff, you start baking your Christmas cake, you take walks and collect sweet chestnuts (well, later this month, not now), you have bonfire night, and halloween, you dive into piles of leaves, you have fires to keep warm, and hot chocolate... I can go on, it's one of my favourite seasons.

Oh sorry, my bad. Just read OP and found there's a birthday coming up. Hunny, there are FAR too many expectations on birthdays, about who will remember and presents and how you will celebrate it etc etc. It's another day just like any other day.
You can choose to have a good day, and do something, or you can choose to sit at home and feel sorry for yourself. Even if it's just you, you can still make it special (if you want to) by spending time with you. Pamper yourself, go get a manicure, something you haven't done for a long time, go for walks, go to the zoo. Most of all, have fun.
PS - my birthday is right after Christmas so most people forget or I just get one pressie. And it's been like that ALL my life. I'm not hung up about it anymore, but hell I used to feel really hard done by lol.

It IS lovely! Omg, it's soooo nice. Have they got a harvest festival where you are? Go to one, get involved. Sometimes, they have an apple day, and you get to taste all the cider that they bottled last year, so it's a great excuse to get sozzled lol. And I'm a mince pie whore, I go to all the places where they offer free mince pies and mulled wine (when it's nearer Christmas time) and I go carolling even if I don't remember half the carols and I'm half plastered from the wine lol. I'm shameless but I have a great time.

I can handle christmas etc- I come from a fairly stable family.

The thing I don't like is birthdays- and it's not just being another year older, that's inevitable, it's being another year older and still having not achieved any of the "big milestones" in life that people I went to school with have- moving out, getting married, having their own family, having a uni degree and a career, while I'm still at home with my parents, unable to cope with the world and be independent. In my last few years at school I dreaded birthdays, because it meant my so-called "friends" would make a fuss about it when all I wanted to do was run in the other direction from them.
