Have you been hospitalized?

Postby nomad_mommy » Fri Aug 12, 2011 11:17 pm

So, I was just recently hospitalized and officially diagnosed with BPD along with bipolar disorder. This is my third hospitalization, and talking to a lot of the people there, I realized that most of them were not first timers. I was wondering, just out of pure curiousity, how many people have been hospitalized, and how many times? I am just trying to understand my illness more, and whether or not I should prepare for a repeat of this experience, just in case

I was hospitalized once.

That's all.
Also BPD and Bipolar I.
You don't HAVE to be hospitalized, if you buckle down and follow your therapy habits.
Most repeats are from not doing what they should to take care of themselves.

I've never been hospitalized, and frankly I'm having trouble getting your attitude. It's not an uncommon one though, and I find it maddening.

Why in the hell would you be preparing yourself for another hospitalization? Why are you choosing to be weak? Does the weakness give you some form of security? Do you get jollies from the submission? I'm the polar opposite. How can you stand being controlled to the point where you're looking forward to the next time you're controlled? It's an institution, as is prison, furthermore it has relation to prison,.. essentially you don't mind prison so much. WTF?!

No, you should be preparing yourself to not be in a hospital again.

wow, easy on the attitude. i am simply trying to understand. and yes, i am weak. i also have a child that i would like have a plan for if it would happen again. it is definately NOT prison........ and the fact that you would compare it to prison shows me that you are very simple minded. Please take your bad attitude and bullying elsewhere..........

one of my biggest issues is keeping up with the therapy, however, i have told a few close people to make sure they make me keep up with it. I start out enthusiastic, but then a switch goes off and I dont care. But, hopefully with my friends, who now know what I need them to do, I will be able to keep up with everything.

Thanks for your input :)

Not directly for BPD, but twice for my ED. Wanted to self-admit or go to the ER several times in the past 2 years but have pushed through and avoided it.

Thank you. Probably would have been better to have been hosbitalized and gotten a dx before age 49 and much heartache. But it is what it is.

I see.

Not quite. I have no idea what kind of hospital you ended up in, but the one I nearly ended up was a county/state one, they deliberately wound patients up until they flipped out so they could strap them down in a room and inject them with drugs--this particular time was for a perceived racial slight by an older woman, so the various racial minorities got together and did it to this woman who was just confused. They quite enjoyed themselves.

My eyes were never quite the same after bearing witness to that ordeal. On the contrary, I was taught much detail about humanity and society on that day.

People were treated as animals and sub-humans, people got beat for leaving bathrooms dirty, confused patients were laughed at. I'm not certain who was crazier, the patients or the staff.

So, you want to talk about bullying? I have been called many a thing in my time but bully was seldom among them.

Thankfully, I did some artful dodging and didn't have to spend more than a night there, and never actually got admitted to the ward. Since, I've made damn certain I never ended up in a hospital.

I'm guessing you went to private hospital, or one covered by an HMO?

Bad attitude? That is possible. I'm afraid I'm in a bit of withdrawal at the moment and that may have unintentionally, or semi-intentionally, or unknowingly (who knows) come out on you. So, I apologize.

I wasn't suggesting there is anything wrong with being weak either, you are both young and ill so that's to be expected. I'm sorry that you are. I would never pick on anyone. I simply get frustrated with people who remain that way as they seem to become dependent on hospitals; they must be going to some damn nice hospitals.

As far as taking myself elsewhere, I shall.

What? That was an attempt to both make amends and apologize. That should have in no way made you feel inferior.

Stop trying to guilt me, I know that trick, it ain't workin' ...

Your words also have the added advantage of possibly demonizing me to the public and eliciting sympathy from all others for yourself. It's passive-aggressive and manipulative. You're trying to use BPD tricks against someone with BPD, that's why you're failing.
