how many times have you been hospitalized?

i have been in hospital over 55 times
lost count a long time ago

im currently hospitalized now

As a teenager I was hospitalized probably a dozen times. I would say I needed to be less than half of the time. A good way my mom used to like to get rid of me was take me to the hospital, say she was disowning me, and disappear for a month until it was time to go home and the doctors would say it was child abandonment and she HAD to come and get me. One time she refuses and I stayed in a combination of shelters and residential treatments facilities for over a year. the only time I would see her or hear from her was when we had group sessions, and she would only argue with the doc and it was a miserable experience. She is a very sever borderline, and emotionally tortured me with constant threats of abandonment and "I dont love you anymore". And totally unaware of it, BTW. She had no memory of the times she would scream me into submission, or terrorize me for a week because I lost her good sewing scissors. She thinks herself a good mum.

As an adult, managed to stay out of them until I tried to seriously kill myself at age 26, and then was in and out 7 times over the next 5 years.

Im 31 now, and it's been over a year since I went. Im sure if i told the doc how I was really feeling they would tell me to go...but I dont think it would help.

I need to re-wire my brain, not go sit in a plain room for a few days. Although, I do think it saved my life a few years ago.

I was first hospitalized in April 2008 until the start of October 2008. I was then home for 3 weeks before ending up back in hospital from Halloweed 2008 until 6th October 2010.....so it's not been dozens of times....just more than long enough all in a one-er....

3-10. 3 times since adulthood. A few more when i was younger.

sounds like a really tuff childhood i had abandonment issues with my mother

im in hospital now but i managed to say out for just over a year (recored for me)
i was first hospitalized at 12 and been in and out since i was 14 im now 22

the longest i have been in hospital is 3 months
they admit me send me home i last a few hours rarely days before i was back in hospital

I've been hospitalized three times, last time I was an inpatient was May or June 2010. I've never been voluntary, and never will be, every time it was involuntarily committed, but luckily they didn't last too long.

The first time was when I was 15, and it was the psych ward of a children's hospital. I got sent there just because I was declared severely mentally disturbed and was considered a danger to myself and others, I guess that was around the time my mental illness became pretty severe.

The second time I was 19 and I got sent to a fully fledged psychiatric hospital for an evaluation period due to legal involvement. That had to be my least favorite experience with the mental health system by far, that place didn't accept voluntary patients, everyone there was committed and over half the population were forensic patients, lots of criminally insane people. I hated the place.

The third time I was committed to the psych ward of an adult state run hospital because I was messed up on alcohol and was considered a danger to myself and others. It was probably the most tolerable hospitalization of the three, but still very unpleasant. After I graduated from their outpatient support group I never stepped foot in a hospital again and I hope it stays that way.

I said "3-10 times" since it's somewhere around that number--I've lost count actually. Probably around 7 or 8 times would be my guess. First hospitalization (completely involuntary) at age 17--actually had 2 involuntary hospitalizations at age 17. Then again at age 26. Several more times since then, most but not all involuntary. The last one I think was around Christmas of 2008 or 2009.

Definitely not something I would ever do for fun. And I don't think it ever helped me, either. A couple of the hospitals were actually abusive, but my self-esteem was so low that I never even thought to mention it to anyone until years later. I guess I thought deep down that I didn't deserve any better.

My first admission was at 17. I was last discharged back in January. I've just turned 24.

I used to be admitted for a while, get discharged (or discharge myself), be out for a few days or a few weeks, then end up admitted again. The other patients actually used to make bets when I was discharged on how quickly I'd be back

I know I've had 9 or 10 involuntary admissions, but I couldn't even guess at the number of voluntary admissions.

I've only been once so far. It was voluntary, but it certainly wasn't my idea. My best friend took me because I kept saying suicide is inevitable for me. (It still is!)
