we have a specialise service that specialise in personality disorders and up until not they dont want to know me "im to difficult for them to treat" hello you specialise in the area and dont even want to know. i think it all comes down to ASPD diagnoses if it was just BPD they probably would of helped years ago but if im honest i dont think there is a lot they can do now. im over the system and are ready to tell them to F**K off i will have my GP prescribe my meds. i dont even want to be on meds anymore. i have been on meds since i was 7

seems to me these 'people' do in-fact 'specialize' in being in the wrong field.

thats the worst approach EVER!....or just one of many worst approaches

I worked in aged care and looked after people with dementia, it's the type of thing where you can either do it well or you're just damn hopeless at it and get out...look for another job.
there was, also, very comprehensive training designed to educate people how to work 'with' people with that condition.
still....you either could or you 'really' couldn't!

I'm not comparing bpd to dementia....thats crazy

just reckon from my experiences, very few specialists know how to sincerely 'befriend' and gain the trust of someone with bpd.

We are extremely loyal and lovable people and can and will accept treatment and get better if we actually like (might sound lame but it's true), if we actually "like" our doctors, therapists or whatever. (we are too smart to be fooled)

unfortunately many who we do come across just don't know how to get us on side.

hmmm  8)

(sorry, I removed my post 2 back from this...got paranoid it was out of line, anyway I asked in jest if the housemate was still alive?)

The doctors refusing to treat us are not as concerned about BPD as they are about ASPD. That's why they say they don't specialize in us, antisocials are considered untreatable and too dangerous to try to treat. Once you get labeled as antisocial, all they do is exclude you from any therapy and they will try to put legal restraints into your life, and if you have the money, they will send you to a specialist who is used to antisocial people, but you have to pay a fortune for a therapist like that, insurance never covers it and all he can really do for you is get you sent to the hospital instead of jail if you get arrested. He won't give you actual talk therapy, but there may be a group you can go to, but again it's usually far too expensive for anyone.

Re: some of my experiences in the mental health system

I'd like to add my own experiences with the MH system (Canadian) to this thread.

When I went to the ER in the middle of an acute crisis three months ago, with intense suicidality and intention, psychosis, as well as lacerations to the backs of my legs, I received a reaction and a set of circumstances not unlike the rest of you.

I was placed to the back of the line (as a RN myself, I know that, in an ER situation, mental health crises are always placed as last priority, so, no big deal), had to wait 8 hours to be seen. And when I was seen, it was only by the ER physician; I was not granted access to a MH team, or, god forbid, a psychiatrist.

The ER doc dutifully wrote down everything I told him, and went away for 40 minutes.

When he came back, he told me this, and I sh!t you not:

"It seems to me as though you could really use someone to talk to you. Here. Let me give you the name and number of a family GP that lives in your area, as you have indicated that you do not have a family doctor. Sometimes, it's just good to talk about things. And, it's also good to make sure you have a family doctor, so you can talk about, you know, because you're a young woman, things like getting pregnant, etc."

And that was it.

I told that motherf!cker that I wanted to kill myself. And he told me to have a child.

Moral of the story? Never trust a GP to do a psychiatrist's job. The psychiatrists may not be the best thing, either, but sh!t. Not one of them so far has told me to spread my legs in order to get cured.
