Reading Other People

Postby crimsonandclover » Mon Mar 21, 2011 4:31 am

How well can you do it?

I notice I have a insane intuition and I feel like alot of time I can see people pasts and intentions. I don't know if this is a BPD thing or not but I thought I'd ask others and see.

What you think?

I think I'm good at reading how people are feeling, just..not in relation to me, if that makes sense?
I can tell if someone is feeling awkward, uncomfortable, angry, upset etc. and I'll approach people and comfort them, I've been told I'm a good listener and in the past and if I ever socialize I'm the one that people can talk about $#%^ to. This is where I don't get the empathy thing...
But when it comes to anything in relation to me I'm waaay off the ball. I just think everybody hates me so I'll read things that aren't there, I always think people are angry/annoyed/bored with me and I'll be hypersensitive to any slight movement or change in expression. But then again maybe I am right.
Plus, I went to a psychic on impulse a few months back (I flit between being open minded and critical on "that type of thing") and she told me that I was psychic too and a good judge of character, first impressions instincts and all that..So I like to play around with that idea sometimes just to make myself feel better for ######6 up relationships
"They would never change because they'd been given their character too soon; which, like sudden riches, leads to a lack of proportion: the one had splurged herself into a top-heavy realist, the other a lopsided romantic."

YES! I can read people in an amazing way. But, like you, I assume everyone hates me so I take everything they say as an insult of some sort. I don't believe I have psychic abilities but I have been able to predict things off of the way people talk and their gestures. I've been told I'm crazy and reading too far into things..and then BAM!! What I predicted happens and it leaves everyone kind of scratching their heads and telling me it must be a coincidence.

Yes, I think I am overly intuitive. I watch people closely and am extremely sensitive to other people's behaviors/emotions. I only have BPD traits, not the full disorder, so I don't have the constant feeling that everyone hates me, but I do read people very well. I have had people tell me that my ability to do this makes them uncomfortable because they don't feel like they can hide anything from me.

Does anyone else here also over-empathize? Like when I talk to a person who is having a rough time or see someone suffering, their suffering becomes my suffering. I'm really disturbed by it and can empathize with whatever they are going through.

In general I think BPDers and those with traits of the disorder are just extremely emotionally sensitive and intuitive. I think it should be a characteristic of the disorder (or is it already?).
I may be crazy, but at least I'm self aware. Nothing frustrates me more than denial.

lol peach, i was told the same thing by a clairvoyant. I just stifled my laughter, i'm cycnical about stuff like that. However, i'm very good at reading facial expressions, but like you guys, i read almost too much into them, and assume people don't like me, or are bored or whatever. lol
We are emotionally sensitive and cat eyes, yes, overly-empathetic, at least, it tends to be the case for us. What you describe is very familiar to me. I take on people's emotions instantly.
There's a line between using our sensitivity to pick up cues, and becoming swamped in them and over-projecting our fears and insecurities.
