New here, and Curious...

Postby TheCuriousOne » Sun Jan 02, 2011 6:59 am

Hi,

I mostly heard that the borderlines are mostly from females compared to males but....

Can a BPD family can be passed on to a family? I have a feeling my ex may be diagnosed with BPD and possibly Narcissistic that could be passed from his mom and grandfather [mom's side]...

I'm not sure if I can explain the whole story though if I'm allowed... I still care about him but he has this "change of feelings/moods" with me. Dumped 3 times apparently. He doesn't care how hurt I am or the relationship, but a few months later he may develop feelings for me again [just like before].

The saddest part is when he gets "nice nice" again, it'll be hard to resist since he's really caring, compassionate, and always there to help and listen.... But once something triggers him boom... Complete opposite. He doesn't care, avoids me, treats me like a "jerkass" and so on. And it's killing me mentally... :?

Err again.. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to explain the whole situation... It'll be a very long story if I do.

You can explain the situation, just don't mention his name or yours. I'm not a professional and neither is anyone on the site, but people have mentioned before that a person might have or seem to have one of these disorders and that one of their parents is like that too. Maybe it's half inherited and half learned, who knows.

If what you will say here bothers anyone, they can tell us and we'll see what we can do about it.

Hi,

im not a professional either, but from what i've read which has been written by professionals, BPD and NPD can be caused by BPD/NPD parenting, so this could be possible.

Also, though BPD is often associated with women, this is partly because the diagnosis has in the past been used as a "waste basket" for "difficult" female patients. Also BPD men are probably underdiagnosed, partly because of this stereotype, and partly cause men generally have higher aggression levels and different social expectations as to which emotions they can express and how, so they tend to react and behave differently to women who are experiencing similar problems.

That could be true, I do know my ex is somehow having a hard communication relationship with her mom due to "change of moods". I'm not 100% sure how she treated him as a kid though. But I was told from him that his grandfather [mom's side] was somehow similar that made his grandmother divorce him. Same with his dad divorcing his mom.

But still... I'm not too sure just yet. but the puzzle seems to be coming together.

It's alright. I mean, as long as they know they can always do something about it no matter what. I just don't think my ex really knows yet...
