Hi- my name is lauren and I'm a freshman in college.
I had a councilor back home who thought I may have bpd, but never actually diagnosed me. I talked to my new councilor out here about it, and he told me that bpd wasn't a real disorder and that I shouldnt worry about things like that.
I am bipolar but I have many, many reasons to believe that I am also borderline.
Im hoping to get support and understanding here :)

Hi, Lauren.

I was diagnosed bipolar, but I'm sure that I'm far more impaired by bpd than my depression (taken care of by meds) and my few hypo-manic episodes. Where do you live? In the US, we are making great strides in treating borderline with Dialectal Behavioral Therapy. I live in Wisconsin US.

I currently live in massachusetts. my last councilor said that my father "emotionally abused" me as a child, which i definitely agree with. I have major fear of abandonment issues, and it's ended a few relationships, both romantic and friends. I don't really know how to control it though- I tell myself that i shouldnt freak out over every little thing, but im so afraid that people are going to abandon me that i pretty much end up driving them away :/

That's the trademark of bpd. We freak out over stuff like abadonment. Do you do the "leave you before you leave me?" bit?

At any rate, if you have access to DBT, and you probably do in a progressive state like Massachusetts, I would take it. You can probably find out by calling university hospitals. I do alot better with my freakouts these days. Today I had one, but it was over in about an hour. It used to go on for days and affect my relationships a lot. I think we borderlines think with our emotions rather than logically, and we need to learn how to think logically and set our emotions aside because our emotions FEEL like reality, but they aren't.

I struggle with this, but am working hard on it.

Welcome to the board :)
