I have a parent with BPD.
Sometimes up to 75% of the time they hang up on me when we're talking on the phone. This happens the moment I say something that irks them. This happens the moment I disagree with their point of view.
But then 2 days later they call back and are so very sweet as if nothing happened. When I try to ask them not to continually hang-up on me, they become upset and say that I shouldn't think negative thoughts.
I feel abandoned each and every time they hang up on me. It kills me - because its almost everytime we speak.
Is this a symptom of BPD??

Hi, PalaFer! Whether or not this is because they have BPD, your parent shouldn't treat you this way. Any one would feel bad and abandoned in your situation. Do you think not talking to them for a little while would teach them a lesson and maybe get them to think of your feelings too?

There have been two times that I stopped talking to them when they hung up on me. I didn't talk to them again for 2 years and the second time it was 6 months.
It does not really help because I don't think they can control themselves or their emotions. Before they hang up, they begin to cry and scream like a baby. This happens any time they get upset. They get upset over any imagined threat (usually imagined =P). They definitely have BPD.
I'm just wondering if other people with BPD hang up on their loved ones on a weekly/monthly basis.

Hey, PalaFer! I'm sorry to hear that it doesn't work. Hopefully you'll find someone who's gone through something similar.

See my post 'can someone advise please'
Although my wifes' pyshc wont diagnose bpd, she has all the traits....the hanging up the phone thing happens to all my family, her family and me...
she will shout and scream like a child and then just hang up (usually with a threat to kill herself)
with me its when i'm at work, on my work phone.
(if you read my post, not much else has happened apart from me going to a solicitor..and i've kept the peace by keeping quiet..
but soon I will need to see the relatives and the babies, and of course my brothers wedding is coming up and things will need to be discussed again)
