Managing the crying spells.

Postby lot1234 » Mon Dec 22, 2008 2:05 am

Hi Everyone,

I am new here. I was diagnosed with BPD a year ago, along with depression. I have bouts of sadness and while in them I cry for hours to sometimes days. I am so exhausted. I'm tired of crying. Does anyone go through the same symptom? Does anyone know how to manage this? Without being drugged up of course.

Hi, lot1234! Would it help if you had someone there with you, to hold you and maybe distract your from the sadness? I know that it's usually best to just let it go away and not do much when the depression is at its worst, but you could try to prevent it by working out almost every day and going out in the sun and having a walk maybe. Does it come and go within days or weeks?
If nothing makes it better, you should try to see what meds might work for you.

Hi Jasmin,

It usually comes every other week. Sometimes a few days at a time, sometimes only hours.

I think you're right about getting out. If I'm stuck at home all day, like if I have the day off. I get real sad.

I'm trying to steer clear of pills only because I gained about twenty pounds on them.

I've taken your advice, I've already joined the gym. Wish me luck!!

Hey! Hopefully working out and walking will help you. I try to work out in the late afternoon, cause the depression gets bad during the evening for me, but you can figure out what's good for you.
Maybe you should take a look though our Cyclothymia forum and Bipolar forum as well, just in case.

Hi Jasmin,

Looks like working out isn't doing the trick. It's only been a week though. I should give it time.

BPD and bipolar disorder seem so similar. That' s a good idea. Thanks.

Maybe you're in your "low" period. You can try to have a healthier life style and it will help a little with time. I hope you'll figure out what's going on, but if you think you need a new diagnosis, you should talk to a psych.

I just wanted to mention that there is a vitamin that doctors are starting to use because it is just as effective as medications. It is hailed to be just as good as other powerful medicatons.

It takes effect after 3-4 days. I tried it one time when I was going through an emotional bout and I thought it worked wonders. Its in all the "natural cure" magazines as one of the newest discoveries. Maybe just taking 1 or 2 each day might ease things :).

Its called Inositol and I've read that something like 8 grams (8 pills) each day has the same effect as strong medications. I believe that the vitamin heals nerve endings in the brain. Doctors are beginning to recommend it.

Google it.
