Therapy with...Tarot Cards?

Postby queenofwands » Sun Oct 26, 2008 8:39 pm

I was only recently diagnosed with BPD, but for the past 3 years I've been "self-treating" my depression and unstable moods by doing Tarot card readings.

I'll explain: a common problem with Borderlines is that we have trouble identifying and understanding our own emotions, right? Tarot reading is excellent for self-analysis. There are professional therapists who use it as part of their treatment. And from personal experience (and experience with my DBT Skills Training class members), I know that it helps you pinpoint what you are feeling, calm down, and problem-solve.

If you are in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, this is also a wonderful mindfulness exercise that anyone can do. It helps you become aware of your thoughts by "stepping back" from your feelings.

All you need is a deck of Tarot cards ($10-$20, generally). The Rider-Waite deck, or the Robin Wood Tarot, are the easiest to start off with. A book on Tarot meanings is optional, but helpful. I recommend Tarot: Plain and Simple by Anthony Louis.

I just really want to share my experience in the hope that it will help someone else. Let me know what you guys think, please! Questions welcome.

I wanted to add that Medicine Woman Tarot is also great. You can use it like traditional tarot or go through the cards in order doing the visualization excersizes to get in touch with your "spirit" or "inner child" or whatever you want to call it!

I don't know what it is you are calling "ironic." I have several friends that are into tarot and none are BPD. PTSD some, which would make a lot of sense I think considering the disassociation aspect.

psychic reading

Postby jennifer8055 » Tue Jan 13, 2009 12:00 pm

Hi,
I recently read an article by a lady who mentioned a particular psychic website that had some very talented psychic readers. I tried their service and they were actually quite good. They were able to bring out a lot of stuff about me including my love life that only I personally knew and they never gave any sort of vague answers to my questions. I have a new found respect for psychic readers now. You can read the lady's article at
