I live in Washington DC. I belive I have Borderline Personality Disorder. I'm on Social Security Disability for Clinical Depression. I am allowed to supplemnt that with up to $13,500 a year in earnings, which I really need. I'd like to work, but my problems keep me from holding a job any longer than a couple of weeks.
Now, employers are legally required to provide "reasonable accomodations" to persons with disabilities.
Can you reccomend online resources, agencies, etc. that can advise me about:
Real-life examples of how people with BPD have described the "accomodations" they require? I have no idea how to say, "Don't betray me, don't abandon me, don't insult me, don't attack me." without losing the job.
Real-life examples of how people with BPD are even able to GET a job. Let's face it, the economy sucks incredibly even for normals. I have few if any skills, and very little education.
A REAL ANSWER to this question, not a guess: can you get, can you demand, the "reasonable accomodation" of your disabiltiy AFTER you have been hired?
How can you PROVE you got fired because you are sick?
Finally, I know that the government has special hiring preferences for disabled persons, but I have no idea where to look for jobs that way....and how do you overcome their
very-reasonable (let's face it) fear that you're going to "go postal".
