Borderline = Hypocrite?

Postby Air Captain » Thu Dec 20, 2007 2:15 pm

Does anyone else here find that borderlines tend to contradict themselves somewhat often? Obviously, it not being their fault, but the fault of splitting.

I notice that I do it quite a lot. One minute I'll hate something and I'll express my hatred for it to everyone I know. The next, I'll find something I love about it, and I'll love EVERYTHING about it, and express my love for it. This then causes confusion for everyone else, and I tend to find myself in a very contradictory position and am sometimes noted for being a frequent hypocrite.

Has anyone else ever been put in similar situations with regards to this?

That's an interesting way to look at it alright. Do you view things differently in the presence of different people?

Do you ever get amnesia or not remember things? Because I was initially diagnosed with BPD but it turned out I had DID. The seeming contradictions were actually times where I was co- conscious/timesharing with an alter.

Not to put thoughts in your head, but most DIDers are initially misdiagnosed as BPD.

That said, I do think that what you described is a symptom of BPD as well. :)

No, I do tend to remember and realize when I'm contradicting myself. I just don't seem to be able to control it or care at that point, usually because my likes and dislikes change too often.

No, not particularly. Sometimes that definitely may be the case, but usually it's dependent on my mood.

It's actually quite funny sometimes. Haha. But yeah, I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar.

I know exactly what you mean. One day I'll hate something, the next I'll love it. I've never been diagnosed but I can definitely relate to that.

Similarly, one day I'll listen to heavy metal or hardcore punk. The next day it'll be power ballads or soft rock.

Some things rarely change, if ever, for example: I can listen to Pink Floyd any day.

Sometimes, but not always. I do tend to downplay my opinion on something sometimes when I'm with someone who disagrees.

Yes, I do that too. It's like I change who I am depending on who I'm with; like I'm afraid to disagree with someone.

Yes, exactly.
