And not the father? I was raised in a family with a loving mother but distant father (I'm Non-BPD), so its a bit difficult for me to imagine the circumstances. Any ideas? Is their role (mother vs. father) really that different? Or does it go back to some psychoanalytic principle which the layperson may find hard to understand?

This is the first I've heard of this. Do you have any referencing for further information. All my readings, literature and experiences have not identified gender specific abuse.

I've heard it too, that if the mother has BPD then the child is 5x likely to have BPD. Where did I hear that??

I got this from the book "The Real Self" and some other material through the net. They just talk about mothers, not fathers. And also from other postings + my own experience with an BPD person.
