Smelling burning

Postby KatherineMelissaD » Tue Dec 13, 2016 7:52 pm

Hi, just wondered, does anyone smell burning alot-does seem to coincide with stress, but its always a burning smell. Is that normal within BPD?

Any help welcome

Um I don't think this has to do with BPD or stress. You should talk to a psychiatrist about it. My guess is maybe it triggers a traumatic memory?

From what i know from reading a few years ago ..it could be related to a health condition of some sort, the smell of burnt toast for instance. Im not saying it is but in any case its better to check these things out, sometimes it can be medical health and not mental health. Always best to check i say .Talk to your GP/healthcare ...I would

I read something similar to that somewhere. People can hallucinate smells and tastes. Yeah, anything unusual like that needs to be checked as some of it can be from neurological conditions.

Every year I get this very odd taste in my mouth. It kinda taste like burnt food. I don't smell anything but I know smell and taste is related. Its been long enough I realize this is related to an infection. I get sinus and ear infections pretty bad. The burnt taste I get is an early warning sign Im about to get an infection. I also have weird night sweats during an infection too.

I can't say that I've ever heard of "smell hallucinations" being related to BPD. I know it's related to brain injury, epilepsy and a bunch of other things, so my suspicion is that there may be some co-morbidity going on, here.

As soon as I saw the title, burnt toast came to mind. For years, that was the standing joke in this country. "I smell burnt toast; I must be having a stroke! ...oh wait, the toast really is burned."
