Enneagram type 4 and Borderline?

Postby Katy9591 » Thu Sep 15, 2016 1:58 pm

So I encountered enneagram a few months ago, and I relate strongly to type 4. Just wondering if anyone else can relate as well? Or is there another type you relate to better? Linking some resources:

Hi Katy,

I am a non. But we are discussing this very topic in the SOFF forum. Enclosed is Riso and Hudson's belief about different PD and the 9 Enneagram personality styles.

Complete list ( Authors Riso-Hudson)
type 1: Obsessive-Compulsive
type 2: Histrionic/Dependent/Somatization
type 3: Narcissistic
type 4: Borderline/Avoidant/ Narcissistic
type 5: Schizotypal
type 6: Passive Aggressive/Paranoid/Dependent/Borderline
type 7: Histrionic/Manic/Bi-polar
type 8: Anti-social
type 9: Passive -Aggressive/Dependent/Schizoid

Link for your type 4:

It is all theory and conjecture, and no definitive conclusions can be reached, but some of the information has been very valuable for me personally. I am a type 2.

Be well.

I did one of those quick online tests (Riso-hudson) and came out as a type 9. I am definitely not dependant or schizoid. I guess sometimes I might be seen as passive-aggressive. But my diagnosis is BPD.

Second highest was type 1 and I am not obsessive-compulsive. Type 4 was third though but a pretty low score even though I have been diagnosed with both AvPD for 9 years and more recently BPD.

I guess I'm just not a typical BPD type

my results are not stable. most often i am 4 , 5 or 6
i have read about 9 because it was high on me too. because i feel like i am a diplomat and when you first meet me and you do not know me well, i seem calm and peacemaker maybe etc. but it said something like this somewhere:that do not get confused because to be a 9 you have to be calm on the inside too, not only on the outside. and i do not think i am calm on the inside lol.or maybe if you know me better i am not so calm etc
i never get 8 or 2 though. 8 is always very low/the lowest. but all the others fluctuate and usually go between 4,5,6 top results. i did it more that once in different sources when i was bored because i got annoyed that i couldn't get a stable result.
but i think i liked 4 more as a description.i wish we could just choose a personality we wanted lol. everyday having different personality xD

I can't really imagine borderlines as 9s simply because of the amount of emotional turbulence and general intensity. I believe 9s avoid that intensity in themselves and others because they want peace and serenity.

i love emotional intensity. i feel like i am switching personalities and is confusing. one minute i am zen and more calm than others around me and the next i am the opposite and i am freaking out.one minute i want peace and the next minute peace is so boring and i do not like it and i desperately want intensity.
but i was posting more for @Remember Ronni@ because i remember her. she was first wrongly diagnosed as avoidant.so i was thinking maybe she seems calm on the outside this is why the results. maybe is the mask etc

What. I've always been type 7 or 8. Consistently.
Premedication.

Now, the test stated that it was unable to conclude just one type, and I got anything attached with BPD, schizotypal, passive aggressive etc. Basically types 6, 5, 9, 4..8... in descending order of priority.

The doctors tell me that there are 2 types of BPD - the ones who are over emotional which is most typical, but there are also those who over control their emotions. I fall into the latter group - the over controlling for me means I shut down my emotions (dissociation). In that sense I do avoid the emotional intensity and that may be why I came out as a 9. Incidentally I am a trained law mediator so peacemaker is a pretty good fit.

@Hallanvaara I'm curious how well you can relate to 7 or 8?

I'd say pretty well. But I might have been hyped-up, speedy, moody, manic etc. which is what my pdoc keeps talking about.
If not, there is still two opposite expectations remaining.
If I was/am 7:
When moving in their Direction of Disintegration (stress), scattered Sevens suddenly become perfectionistic and critical at One. However, when moving in their Direction of Integration (growth), gluttonous, scattered Sevens become more focused and fascinated by life, like healthy Fives. Learn more about the arrows.

If I was/am 8:
When moving in their Direction of Disintegration (stress), self-confident Eights suddenly become secretive and fearful at Five. However, when moving in their Direction of Integration (growth), lustful, controlling Eights become more open-hearted and caring, like healthy Twos. Learn more about the arrows.
