are those charachterustics of bpd (potential misdiagnosis)??

Postby Ash99 » Wed Jan 27, 2016 1:33 pm

I got previously misdiagnosed by schizophrenia and recently doctors were between schizoid or bpd. After observation and tests they settled on bpd. Idk much abt bpd but when i read online (wiki) i didnot relate to it at all. I am not an emotional person at all on the contrary, i do not feel anything. I am very passive. I dont have abandonment issues. I dont have trust issues. I dont see the world in black and white, i only see myself as a bad person. I am also not impulsive.. on the contrary i like to have control over everything.

Does any of this qualify as bpd?

BPD are not overly emotional in the sense you are probrably thinking.

Maybe you see the world as entirely dark?

Symptoms are not always displayed how they are described, it's different for everyone. people talk about impulsive and reckless behaviour, there's typically a set list of 'common' examples, but said behaviour is not limited to the ones that are often talked about.

Point being, just because you do not 100% relate, doesn't necessarily mean you do not fit criteria. I think people take examples too seriously and become blind to their own 'unique' symptoms.

Ideally, you need at least 5 of the provided 9 symptoms to fit diagnostic criteria of BPD.

That being said, if you truly feel as though you have been misdiagnosed, I highly suggest you take this discussion to any professionals you may see, they will be able to help you out.
