Being diagnosed with BPD?

Postby LRG_GRL » Tue Oct 20, 2015 2:02 am

About a year ago, after reading and researching quite a bit I discovered I was 99.9% I had borderline personality disorder. I saw a therapist (for my depression) who claimed I had a generalized anxiety disorder. I never told her I thought I was borderline, but we never really connected well and I felt like merely a patient. I faked whenever I would have to meet with her until eventually I just stopped going. I'm essentially making this post as a "what should I do now?" How do I get professionally diagnosed and given treatment options. I am slipping back and driving those around me away.

Get a therapist or a pdoc.
Make a list of your history of and current symptoms and the impact those symptoms have had on various areas of your life.
Present list.
Wait for diagnosis.

Easy :D

BPD overlaps other disorders so don't try to tailor your symptoms to fit the DSM criteria. Just be honest about the ways your life is effed up. I don't suggest any self-diagnoses because I want the process to be as objective as possible. If you don't agree with what they tell you, you can then ask why/why not BPD or request testing.
