How do you do with stimulants?

Can you tolerate stimulants (ADHD meds, Provigil)? Do they affect your mood?

I love stimulants. :D

I like the buzz they give me. Amphetamines and Methamphetamine really stimulate my brain in ways other drugs cannot.

Too much make me aggressive though

I have ADHD-PI and I'm on Adderall XR. I wasn't aware that stimulants are prescribed to people with BPD. Stimulants help me focus and I'm more motivated on them; however, I do sometimes experience depression when I'm on them, depending on how I'm feeling. Since they improve my concentration, I sometimes end up fixating on all the negative aspects of my life.

Me too, I love them but it's so easy to take too much and then I rage. That's what I was wondering!

I'm not sure if they are either. I'll leave it at that.

I work 12-hour shifts which switch between days and nights, so I take modafinil (Provigil) for shift work sleep disorder. It helps me stay awake though my shift and stay focused. I used to use caffeine tablets, but they have a shorter duration and sometimes make me too chatty.

Stimulants aren't generally prescribed *for* BPD, but there's nothing against them being prescribed if they're indicated for something else the pwBPD also has. If the stimulant amplifies anxiety then that is considered an adverse effect, and so some consideration should be given to pros vs cons.

Some of the patients with BPD I've cared for take stimulants for their ADHD, including Adderall, Vyvanse, Strattera, and Ritalin. Many of the Adderall takers are clearly addicted to it though. :(
