Advice for appointment scheduling?

Postby CertifiablyBPD » Wed Jul 08, 2015 7:21 am

Had my first psychotherapy session today. I made my case for BPD, he agreed. We spent about 15 discussing me eventually feeling abandoned by him (the therapist) and 6 hours later it has happened.

I needed to go through his assistant to make the next appointment. I texted her while on my way home and she called me back right away. She wasn't sure when she could schedule the next session because I wanted to make it for this week again she said she has to speak with the doctor to confirm something. She said she'd call back in a half hour. I'm still waiting. I mean I know the obvious normal thing is to just call her in the morning. But, as you all know, this is a major thing right now at midnight.

So any reply is cool, I expect this to be deleted by mods as are most of my internet posts.

I assume there are a mixture of students and patients here?

Background: Male, 30. Long history of drug/alcohol abuse, anger, ruined relationships, rehabs, doctors, etc etc. I believe myself to meet all 9 criteria.

Hi there

Well done on getting through the appointment. First sessions are always tough.

I know it's REALLY hard not to jump to conclusions on them not calling you back. I'm always having to talk myself down from my assumptions, and even then it doesn't always work. I really hope you can get an answer early tomorrow morning.

As for students and patients being here- it's a anonymous peer support forum for anyone who'd like to reach out. There are no professionals on the site at all- even if someone is a professional there's no way of verifying who they say they might be online, and it wouldn't be appropriate for a professional to offer any kind of formal advice to someone in this kind of setting. You will meet people with loads of life experience and understanding though.

I don't think there's any need to delete your post at all. You're quite welcome to post here and I'm sure you'll find others going through some similar things.

Thank you for the reply. The assistant texted me back at 1:15 AM, what a relief. I am going back this afternoon. Now I am obsessing on whether he will be using DBT or what other mode of therapy. It's one thing after another....

How did it go? You don't have to say if you don't want to.
