Do you belief in life after death?

Postby noreally_imfine » Thu Sep 25, 2014 12:26 pm

I hope its okay that I'm posting about this. Its not directly related to BPD. I am BPD though if that counts!

I just dont know where else to talk about this and its been ruminating in my mind a lot lately. I'm not suicidal either or anything I've just been thinking a lot. Figured this would be a good place to ask this interesting question. I have a handful of questions. Please answer all. Thank you!

Do you believe in an afterlife? Do you believe in Heaven and Hell? Do you believe that those who have died can see us down here on earth? And, also do you think when we die, we can communicate with others who are dead too?

Sometimes, I'm mixed about death. Sometimes, I am terrified of death and other times, I'm not.

I remember reading that when Steve Jobs was dying his last words were "oh wow, wow, wow"... something like that. Made me feel less worried about death.

Crap! I meant "believe in" not belief! I know everyone gets what I meant but I still wanted to clear that up!

Yes, I have a strong belief in life after death. I know that because I have that belief it brings me a huge amount of comfort and helps me understand my purpose in this life. I completely agree that it is something important to think about. I really love this topic and it is something that really interests me! I would love to talk more about it with you and exchange thoughts and ideas, if you are okay with it I can personal message you? Great question, I really look forward to talking more about it with you! :)

I do...but i don't believe in heaven or hell. I tend to think after we die we go rest for a while...i also believe i am an old soul who didnt spend many lifetimes on this plane (earth)

Here's how I see it for most individuals: that it is like sleep, which, of course, a person can be woken from...therefore, when we die, we cease to exist. The dead can’t think, act, or feel anything. A person who is fast asleep is unaware of what is happening around him. But I do firmly believe that death is not the end of everything. Because I believe that God can awaken the dead as if from sleep and give them life again...

No. I was raised agnostic, but my parents are atheists. I experimented with it as a teenager but I find religion is simply a pacifier and a way for people to avoid the fear of the inevitability of death. I remember exactly the moment, around age 8 or 9, when I really internalized what death was and the concept of ceasing to exist. Now I'm not so afraid of it. Life ends and life begins. It's the way the world works and we are lucky enough to have been given life, consciousness, and a body that functions in an unbelievable miracle of chemical reactions. I can see why people would fool themselves into thinking that death doesn't really mean the loss of this and there's no way to definitively prove otherwise, but I can't manage to believe in life after death from a rational perspective. Must be nice though.
