No Inusrance, No money

Postby bobsburgers » Mon Jul 28, 2014 5:22 pm

How am I suppose to get help when my insurance doesn't cover mental health until I pay 1500 out of pocket, my financial situation doesn't allow me to pay the 300 dollars a visit and I fear going to a local mental health center only to be turned down due to the number of patients already in their system or that I'll be able to get counseling but will only be just a number to the therapist.

What did you all do?

If you can't afford it, DON'T do it... not worth it in my opinion. That's a lot of money to go down the drain to someone that doesn't give a sh*t, i've been there and done that before. If you can afford it, then do it. That or go to a free clinic... which is never free i think you would have to show proof of income to show you can't afford it. i dunno there's always another alternative, maybe find something to do to dkeep your mind off your problems, like play a sport or do something to keep yourself busy, i mean really the whole thing about finding help isn't always going to found from a "professional", unless of course you're a professional yourself and make big bucks to talk to one. I think they like to help the rich people only so thats why so many suffer, ###$ that.

It must be frustrating to have insurance, need care, but be unable to afford it. I was uninsured for two years and couldn't afford to pay for care out-of-pocket. I was grateful to be able to qualify for help with the county mental health system/clinic. Although I didn't receive the best care ever, there was someone to see me, groups for me to join, and I could get medicated. Taking the care you can get is better than being without care at all, so I hope you can find the courage to reach out to your local mental health center.

I always make sure to exercise 4 times a week and eat healthy and try read what I can. I may look into maybe a group setting thing like cbt or dbt or something like that. Something is better than nothing and yet I can't help but agree that if I'm going to spend the money I'd rather wait and do it right and not just go to anyone. I know like many, I've had enough bad experiences with therapist who don't care. Have any of you had a positive experience in a support group?
