Abilify cost prohibitive under new insurance, alternatives?

Postby Under Pressure » Thu Jul 17, 2014 8:59 pm

Hello, I am new here and this is my first post. I was diagnosed with BPD in 2012. I was prescribed Abilify 10mg and Xanax. I also take Adderral for my ADHD. My Abilify did wonders for me, but I am with a new employer and my new insurance does not cover it. I was told by the pharmacy that it is $800/month, so that's not an option. My doctor then prescribed to me Zoloft (I forget the dosage). I started taking it but quit when I noticed I was beyond sleepy all day and that I could not achieve an orgasm like normal.

I would to know if anyone else here is on any medication that is comparable to Abilify? I know different drugs work differently for different people but I wanted to see what options I should bring up to my doctor. Abilify did not make me sleepy and it did not affect my ability to achieve orgasms. It was a wonder drug for me but until its patent expires in 2015 and generics hit the market, I simply can't afford it. I would like to know if there are any other medications out there people could recommend that I bring up to my doctor to try out? Ever since I have come off Abilify, I am experiencing issues that seem to be affecting my personal life and my professional life. Any recommendations would be appreciated! Thank you!
