Dopamine and BPD depression

Postby Martijn » Sat Jun 21, 2014 5:23 pm

So.

I saw a lot of things, people feeling down and empty, on this board. One of the things I know is that emptiness usually occurs in times of stress. When the stressor is taken away the person usually feels better. I don't know where I found this (I was looking for anhedonia I guess) but I found something on this same board take took away the apathy and anhedonia (emptiness) from someone with schizophrenia. I googled tyrosine (L-Tyrosine) with bpd and found THIS.

http://www.dailystrength.org/groups/bor ... s/12537682

Some of the things she said regarding dopamine defiancy reminded me of my self:

- lack of concentration
- lack of focussing
- chronic boredom
- lack of interest
- anhedonia
- heavy cravings for stimulants like sugar and coffee
- wanting to sleep all the time
- no motivation
- depressed mood

etc etc.

Than I found this, some guy who had succes with l-tyrosine in depression.

And ofcourse the fact, that huge levels of stress (which we all have, more than others) cause to drain dopamine levels completely.

So i'm trying to tyrosine thing, together with 5htp. Hope it works!

Any thoughts?

Be careful with 5 htp. Never ever take it w st jhons wort. As u can get serotonin sickness. They r both serotonin uptakes which I did not know. Also do not take if you are bipolar as it can cause manic episodes and psychosis. Start at a low dose and build up to the recomended dose of 6 to 800 for max effectiveness. Higher doses though can cause irritability and stomache upset and g I problems. I had to stop bc it caused frequent agression in high dose and stomache pain. However at low dose I did note improved outlook. But its expensive anf effective pills are in the foil pack not loos e. L trptophan is the same as 5htp so I don't recommend those both.

also a hint of serotonin if it is too high you will have nightmares and vivid dreams then too low is no dreams at all.

but I did not know stress depletes dopamine which certainly explains alot to me. I depleted my dopamine in my early 20s as a meth addict then. But now I guess I just deplete w stress which ive had some pretty extreme stress past couple months. I wondered what happened to my sex drive well now I c!

I dont have a bipolar diagnosis, but when I took SSRI drugs, I was Manic.
Be careful with those.

Well, this definitely works for depression. :) Gives you a nice 'high'. Would recommend 2x 3500 mg a day plus vitamine b6 (you need that) on a empty stomach.

I have taken 5-HTP. I found it helpful for getting me out of a depression, but I need to be very careful as it does make me go manic. As others have said, please be aware of other medications you may be taking as it does increase your serotonin and too much serotonin can cause serotonin syndrome which is very serious. Always tell your doctor of any supplements you are taking along with prescribed medications. -PSA over-
Bipolar I with Psychotic features; Borderline Personality disorder; GAD
Today's cocktail is: Quetiapine 100mg; Latuda 40mg; Trilafon: 8mg

In what way do they help? What kind of symptoms do you have?
