Yea that link almost made me cry too..but not for the same reasons.

I came to this forum in search of information on BPD, suspecting that I may have it. After reading
this page, "The Borderline Experience," I actually started crying from relief. I could finally label what I was feeling, and knew that there were others out there (so many others) who struggle too.

Well I didn't quite cry after readin that but came pretty close. Im afraid I might have bpd since especially last night I experienced an almost exact description on that site.. Whats the process for getting diagnosed?

Chucky are you in the field then?
I only read the first sentence, but it seems to take an eyesenk view of the disorder.
He also believed that introversion and extroversion were also linked to the Limbic system and the ARAS. Although I thought his research was shown to be quite flimsy in the end.

Ohh can't you tell I just sat a psych exam hehe  I had to write about Eyesenk.

I definitely think there is a biological basis for BPD, a chemical/biological/genetic vulnerability to the illness if you like, which it is possible to overcome in the right "nuturing" environment, however if invalidation occurs too it can exascerbate / cause the actual illness to take hold. But everything is just theory when it comes to such a thing.
I think that would explain why some people have similar experiences and dont get BPD and why some people have a great childhood and still get it. 2 different (or many different) factors at play.

I agree with what you said, Janine. Some illnesses are solely based on genetic errors (such as Down's Syndrome and Kleinofelter's Syndrome), but many others must surely be influenced by the environment too, as you have implied. I have no training in the field of psychology. I did my degrees in studied computer science and industrial biology, and am now doing my PhD on breast cancer (looking at it from a genetic view-point).

Wow Kevin, that's fantastic, I'm so glad there are people like you out there working on things like breast cancer.
One of my friends in London is doing something similar, one day you'll all find a cure! :)

Biological things are far easier to cure !

hmm, I know some people in London who are working on breast cancer too. Maybe we know the same person, but I will not be fishing for info from you as this website is inappropriate for discussing private issues, I feel. It is one of the most funded cancers (regarding research). A cure will never really be found I believe, because cancer is not a disease that is foreign to the body. I think the best we can hope for is early diagnosis and better drugs to prevent the cancers from spreading. Much more research to be done!

Gosh absolutely true. I wouldn't want any of my London friends (where I used to live) to know I was BPD either ;) the only ones who know are me and my BF!

Others who have been close to me, just think I'm a nightmare! lol but they don't know why.

I dunno, man, I read it and I disagree with a lot of the stuff. It actually makes me mad!

-Prozac is NOT a miracle drug (did not stop the mood swings for me at all)
-My sleep is not abnormal... its not one of the criteria anyhow.
-If I developed the "disease" (a term I abhor) it was neither from abuse, accident, nor infection.
-Also, seritonin metabolite in the cerebral spinal fluid is low in the person who takes SSRI's as well as in the suicide victim. (I forget why, but I know someone who knows and can explain it to me again so I can tell you. Its actually common sense when you think about it. I think it has to do with the fact that SSRI's do NOT increase seritonin levels, they merely increase the amount of time the seritonin is in the synapse... and I forget the rest... eh.)
-If someone told me "you're not an *#%@*, your brain is broken," I would laugh at them and/or punch them in the face. My brain is broken? Seriously? Just because you don't like the feeling of my fist knocking out your teeth doesn't mean my ARM is broken, now does it! Just because you don't like the way I ACT doesn't mean I'm "broken," biologically or otherwise.

Hi, I did some research and I have found out that most of the BPD's are looking for information to understand what is going on, why do they have this mental disorder and what are their options since there is so little available help to be found either online and offline.
I am a graduated BA in Psychology and MA in Clinical Psychology, Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I have a free ebook for you all called "Surviving The Hellhole", www.theborderlinetreatment.com .

God Bless!
