Omega 3 (Fatty-Acids)

Postby CrazyGirl31 » Tue Mar 04, 2014 12:06 pm

I've read alot of promising things about Omega 3 fatty acids due to the levels of EPA in them. Im told it helps a load to improving the mood in the behavior of someone with BPD. Clinical studies have had great results plus others suggesting it is helping. Has anyone here had any luck?

Any suggestions for home remedies, vitamins, anything you can buy over the counter to help BPD, DEPRESSION, MOOD, PRE MENSTRUAL SYNDROME?

I am unable to get medication from my psychiatrist. For his own personal beliefs, so has anyone got advice on getting hands on my own medication thats available without prescription.

So far Omega 3
Vitamin B6

I've been taking them regularly for years, along with a host of other supplements. I wouldn't say I noticed any major changes in my depression or mood symptoms JUST from the omega 3s, but I can say that making an overall improvement in my diet and exercise has been one of the best things for me, and starting to read more about holistic health and experiment with supplements is what got me started on that path. all of these things combined can definitely balance you out and make you less reactive, so I'd say anything that moves you in that direction is a good thing. omega 3s are healthy and necessary for many brain and bodily functions and anti-inflammatory, so taking them regularly is a good idea anyway, even if you don't notice a major change in your mood.

Im taking the omega 3 supplement at a high level of 1mg EPA. Im wondering what level you are taking. Normally 1 daily capsule contains only 150 - 160 mg epa. So you have to take 7 of the large things for a big enough dose to notice mood change. nd I take vitamin b6 for hormone balance. I have started walking. Ive walked about 16 miles in the last 2 days. I will try to continue with the exercise and see how it helps my mood and over disorder.

interesting...I am not sure how much EPA is in mine. I will have to check that, thanks! I am actually taking krill oil now although I started on fish oil a few years ago, before reading that krill is supposed to be more beneficial for whatever reason...it's supposed to be more easily absorbed by the body, I think.

evening primrose oil is supposed to be excellent for things like pms and female hormonal imbalance btw, so you might want to think about adding that to your regimen. this is another one I take every day and I have also used the oil topically. you can buy either a bottle of the oil or gel caps.

I've been taking omega 3 for months (750mg combined EPA and DHA). I haven't noticed any improvement in mood (or anything else).

I agree with the poster above that exercise and a healthy diet probably do make a huge difference (I struggle to make myself exercise though regularly).

I think, in general, taking care of your health helps quite a bit. Also getting sufficient sleep helps me a lot. If I'm not feeling well physically, I'm much less resilient to any mental issues.

I'm also taking a vit D3 and a vit B complex. No idea, if it helps but I hope that at least it won't do too much harm (I think the vit B might be helping with energy levels but I'm not sure).

Well at the moment I am pre menstrual again.

I am currently in a relationship, but there is a problem. He is not one to sit back and let me just bully him or sit there angry or depressed he always wants to know whats going on but I think its for his and my best interests because There has been times ive talked alot about death, suicide and have hurt myself. And mainly when I lash out I used to drive away and ignore him sometimes. He suffers bad anxiety, mainly made worse by me so hes paranoid alot about me and the situation. He is quite intelligent and always trying to help get me better for his and my benefit i believe.

The thing is everytime I am pre menstrual i tell him i dont want to be with him. And he argues but you dont say this when your not pre menstrual, then we have a big argument and i try my best to convince him I dont want a relationship with him. I throw the worst possible insults and horribilist things that come to mind and try to make the lies more convincing by pretending ive told others the same.

I even sometimes think I dont want him when im pre menstrual. And I try my hardest to make him leave. Can anyone explain this. Why its happening. What can i do to help myself here because i cannot get medication from my psychiatrist. Is exercise and better lfiestyle the answer? Whats the answer. Each month goes by and i keep getting pms and doing the exact same things. He has even said the words I use and how i want him to leave is almost identical speeches every month for about the last 5.

I think my pms inflames my bpd even worse what can I do.

I've been taking these for years for mood and ADHD and have noticed no improvement whatsoever. I continue to take them because they've given promising results in research and because I'm pretty sure it can do no harm.
