Cannot really relate to people/girls without MI? *tw?*

Postby thejan » Tue Jan 07, 2014 3:49 pm

I fear that when i finally get to have a girlfriend, she will reject me because of my MI, or don't understand why i do SH etc. Because of that i figured i have to have a girlfriend who has problems herself. It's just that i have been through things that "normal" people wouldn't understand.

Any thoughts on this?

EDIT:
I think i have way too much expectations and so i won't find a girl who i both like and who likes me... :( how can i fix this?

I've often felt the same way. I usually don't intend to find people with issues, but I either tend to attract them or bond well with them. Same goes for my friends- all of them have some sort of mental health problem, or have in the past. Trust me, it doesn't make a relationship easier. You definitely have that "we get each other because we're both broken" feeling, but it means that when things go bad, they go REALLY bad. Just a warning.

I was a serial monogamist for all of high school and college, never single for more than a few days. Now, I'm taking a break to get my own stuff sorted out, because until I get myself a little more stable, there's no way I can be as present and giving in a relationship as I would want to be.

I totally get this. Whenever a guy shows interest in me who doesn't have a MI he will think he can fix me. But bfs in the past who have had a MI haven't, we've just been crazies together.

I also like to think I'm taking time for myself right now. Which is partly true, it's also due to the fact that I'm the same as you - unless they have a MI I don't think they'll understand (which isn't always true).

Its the same with my friends, the people who I am closest too right now all have mental health issues.

Your expectations aren't the problem, it's everyone else. You can't really dumb down your feelings to fit them for a "common" person. I feel like with patience a rewarding relationship always comes.

As understanding as people come off they usually still see the "MI label" and that gets annoying. It's hard communicating with someone if they refer back to that every time you do something that's remotely unreasonable

There's a lot of truth to this, my BPD ex and I never had serious arguments about a thing... But if we did it was not pleasant...

But we grew a looooot from each other and I wouldn't have changed it for the world. It's the most amazing thing being with someone that's your equal. Someone who won't judge you because they understand it all.

You clearly know what you like in a girl and you should keep your standards by all means. When you see what you're looking for then don't let it pass you by.
