in my experience, psychiatrists are nothing but drug dealers. they don't care about you. my illegal drug dealers care more about me and are actually my friends. in addition, they don't sell me anything that has serious side effects or anything i can OD on, while psychiatrists do. i see no reason to ever see another psychiatrist.

Sach

......aren't psychiatrists supposed to be non judgemental? he was an awful person, i didn't like him from the get go.

I have a pretty good one but I agree with Cordial a wee bit, there isn't a heck of a lot of dialogue and a lot of medicaton.

You reminded me of something funny though... a psychologist who did my psych testing last spring asked me a series of personal questions... I answered then he said with smirk " No offense but you were a good girl growing up weren't you? I think its funny now but I get the same look on my face everytime I remember it. So aren't they supposed to be non judgemental yes, are they always unfortunately no.

I know they deal with a lot of people but NO ONE can know you in one sitting - you hear alot on here of people getting a dx after speaking with someone for half an hour thats irresponsible. I ended up staying with a team that told me that a diagnosis is fluid, they can have an idea early on but so many things have to be considered - its something that happens over time. I hope you find someone to work with. I say work with because they may be the professionals in this case but this is your life, and your health :) what you say matters a lot.

I am about to start a year long DBT program next week. My last trip to the funny farm due to a suicide attempt, resulted in this is recommendation. They did not diagnose me officially but said I display a lot of the symptoms. At least I have a tentative answer for the craziness in my life. My first psych just put me on meds and called it a day. :( I was originally diagnosed MDD, GAD with panic attacks. Hopefully this new doc and the DBT help me out. My goal is to get off paxil. It helps the depression but I am gaining a lot of weight which is ruining my self image. I am glad some have had a positive exp with DBT. Gives me some hope as I am new to this.

Ladywolf,

The comment that you made...At least I have a tentative answer for the craziness in my life....made me smile, I think you have hit on why most people seek a dx. You are not blaming the condition (which will fade into the background as you get better) it just helps you make sense of a lot :)

I'm not really looking forward to a new label, nor am I keen on sharing it with my family and friends, but I gotta do something. I may not be lucky next time and I need the quality of my life to improve so I'm just going to bite the bullet on this. I'm just terrified that my feelings will be dismissed or disvalued because of the DX. Wish me luck with my dbt and Dr appt tomorrow :D I am so glad I found this forum as seeing other people surviving and doing well is what I need to keep on going. I'll give updates about how dbt goes so that it may help others. I am ex military so I don't have to worry about the expenses of it and so I plan on taking the opportunity and committing to the year long program the VA is offering me.

What do you mean here...

I'm just terrified that my feelings will be dismissed or disvalued because of the DX....

Is it year long once a week? Have they given you any details?

I'm just scared that my feelings aren't going to be taken seriously. My husband already dismisses me as being "overdramatic" when I get upset over something, but to me it really hurts. And then I go into a rage for not being taken seriously. I hate feeling as if my feelings are just an overreaction and shouldn't be taken seriously. It would hurt too much if more people started treating me like that. The DBT is once a week and consists of both group and individual meetings. I'll be learning more tomorrow about it.

You know I had a feeling you were going to say that. I get it I think it was xdude who said its not overreaction you feel things more deeply. Don't worry about what people think, if you think it will really bother you don't tell them. A year long skills program is great - good luck tomorrow. :)
