how to not overthink

Postby jaus tail » Sat Nov 09, 2013 2:41 pm

i'm always very conscious as to what others think of me and ask them for feedback on me. if they give good feedback, i think they're lying.

its like with every comment i want the other fellow to reply with lol. if he doesnt reply with lol or doesnt reply, then i get anxious and think the fellow finds me boring.

how to stop this, i'm tired of appearing like a kid seeking opinions on me.

Raise your self esteem because it just doesn't matter what others think 90% of the time.

It is simple, but it is also hard work and takes a long time. Took me 3 years of self help to start feeling more normal.
My self esteem is OK now. I do take an SSRI that helps as I suffered with panic attacks too.

This overthinking thing drives me crazy at times. Sometimes I just want to tell my racing mind "STFU!!!" If I could "turn it off", I would; but it is not that simple. SSRI's do seem to help except in times of extreme stress. It really exhausts me and I wish I could control it. I pray and ask God to help me, but it often feels that doesn't help. I think that I keep rethinking because I am afraid I a missing something...or I fear & worry that others suspect that I have mental issues. I just keep pressing on.

This to is what I am having the hardest time with. In my DBT class I have even thought about going around my class and asking what each person thinks of how I come off as a person ( because I cant seem to see myself clearly ) because I think they will at least understand and not judge me for asking.
On the other hand I have held off on getting a job because I am to worried that just one person will not like me, and if one person doesnt like me then that completly invalidates me and the rest dont matter. DAM BLACK AND WHITE THINKING!
