I'm confused on when to mark a post *trigger*

Postby RiceBall » Thu Nov 07, 2013 3:53 pm

I'm BPD and I read all the *read me* listings, and am still unclear on what would be considered a *trigger post*? Sorry, i just want to make sure before i go posting in this forum, as i wouldn't want to cause hurt in anyone else. Thank you.

hi there! adding a trigger warning isn't a black and white condition as everyone has triggers. there are particular ones that are glaring for most pwBPD like talk of SH/SI/ED/sexual abuse/etc. if you feel that what you are speaking about deserves a TW, then feel free to add it. if a mod pops in and thinks there needs to be an added warning, we will swoop on in and add one!

welcome to the boards riceball ;)

Thank you so much. I just would hate if my reaching out for help ended up causing someone pain, so wanted to make sure.

The mere fact that you're wanting help and afraid of triggering someone has triggered me because how dare you be in need of help and have feelings for others!!!!!!!!!

KIDDING! :D

Welcome and hoping you find the help and encouragement here you're looking for!

LostNVegas -It's from an Anime called "Fruits Basket". (i LOVE Anime) This girl always felt like an outsider until she meets this specific family of people. But when she was a child she'd be left out in a game the kids would play called "Fruits Basket". Each kid was assigned a fruit name and called out one by one to go play with the others. She was assigned by them as the "rice ball". But she never got called to go play with the other kids, cause a rice ball doesn't belong in a fruits basket - and would be left out.

There's also a touching analogy tale with the rice ball, about not being able to see the special qualities in yourself & being jealous about the specialness you see in others -because it's easier to see the special qualities in others, than what's "stuck to your back". In that a rice ball would go around seeing all the special fruits/goodies in the back of other rice balls and look in the mirror thinking it's not special, nothing but plain rice. But in its back it has a plum, and doesn't even know it. So we see the special qualities in others, which are easier for us to see and then feel bad that we're not special, but we actually do have special qualities we just can't see in ourselves we've had all along cause they're "stuck to our back".

--I thought "RiceBall" to be a fitting tag name as all of this hits quite close to home, and i've always felt like i've never belonged, & have kept the "special qualities" story in my mind which sometimes helps turn things around in my mind when i'm feeling horrible about myself & "not special" compared to others around me. --& it makes me feel a bit better... What can i say, i'm weird ;)

Thanks for taking time to explain. Actually I would not have thought RiceBall had such a cool significant meaning..especially coming from Anime.. LOL Kidding..

I know, knew, nothing about anime and I'm glad to know there is some meaning and thought behind Anime. My girfriends son knows about it.. I'm 47 so you gave me some great insight.

I think it's cool you have a name that means something and correlates to a great story!

A helluva lot more meaning than. LostNVegas!! LOL
