Umm...just got fired. Now what??

Postby ladyserenity5 » Mon Oct 28, 2013 6:54 pm

I really liked my job. But I just got fired without a good reason. I usually run away from jobs and quit myself before it gets this bad. I decided to stick this one out, but it ended the same way. I'm a bit in shock! I tried really REALLY hard to not let my bpd affect my work, but I guess it did.

At this point, I'm not emotional at all bc I'm afraid of unleashing them and falling in to a depression and making it worse. My question now is where do I go from here?

Clearly I need a low stress job that can be flexible for my medical stuff, but who WOULDNT want a job like that? They are few and far between. How do I find someplace that is willing to work with a mental case? I just feel numb and lost.

Any and all advice is MUCH appreciated.

In complete contrast to Archer, I take it from the typical guy point of view; the problem-solving mind kicks in.

What I would suggest is to write down everything you remember from the termination interview - what the other person said, what you said, how both parties reacted, etc. Give a day or two for the shock of it to wear off (as it is a shock, for certain), and then, if you still feel that you were terminated without a valid reason, you might want to contact an employment lawyer about a wrongful dismissal suit. Many will hold a first meeting with you for free, or for little cost.

Winning a wrongful dismissal suit (and I don't know the details of it, or the laws in your area, so I don't know what the chances of your winning would be) wouldn't get you your job back, but it would possibly give you a substantial settlement, clear your employment record, and just as importantly, prove to you that you were right - that you did your job right, and they were the ones who had the problem.

Just a thought...

firstly ladyserenity5 so sorry this has happened to you. My girlfriend may be going thru this today or this week. Her supervisor is actually admittingly bipolar and treats everyone employed there like crap. She's always threatening termination etc. .and the turnover is terrible.

Did not mean to make this about us but really feeling your pain.. her jobs the only stable if you can call it that income we have right now.

SO.. I completely agree with what JohnnyBlaze said.. very much good advice.

Also be sure to document anything and everything that you can think of in a timeline of your employment..you may need or want it later. That said...

Have you worked there long enough to claim unemployment? If so GET ON THAT ASAP.. right stuff down but if you can file DO IT ASAP.. it would at least be something till better comes along.

Is there an HR dept where you worked? If so it might be a good idea to set up a talk time if you think you may have been wrongfully terminated.

Was your work or did you ever need to notify them of meds you might have needed to take.. were they aware of your diagnosis or condition?

If so you SERIOUSLY should talk to HR.. IF a small company and no HR dpt.. Like John said consider calling a pro in your area who handles things and possibly discrimination.

Keep us posted and all the best to you!
