BPD traits in Eminem's Lyrics ::Trigger Warning::

Postby Highland87 » Tue Sep 10, 2013 4:48 pm

I have been somewhat of a fan of Eminem for the last 10 plus years and the more that I listen to him, the more I think that he might have BPD based on his lyrics and how he describes his relationships. Four songs in particular which seem to show BPD tendencies in the lyrics are Stan, Spacebound, Love the way you lie, and Kim (probably his most controversial song). There are of course others that could be mentioned. I will post links to these songs with lyrics. :: Trigger Warning ::

Spacebound

Love the way you lie

Kim (Big trigger warning)

Anyways, let me know if you agree, I know that people have talked about "Stan" and "Love the way you lie" before here. If there is anyone else who can think of other songs from him that might fit BPD traits feel free to post.

I agree with you that Eminem probably has BPD and he expresses it a lot in his music.

I think especially Love the Way You Lie is a song about a romantic couple who both have BPD.

Sort of off topic, but I think Johnny Cash, John Lennon, Tupac Shakur, and Kurt Cobain also all had BPD.

For me the only two songs that cry out bpd to me is self destruct personality & keep holding on by falling in reverse. I even believe the singer ronnie radke has bpd. My friend is good friends with him and some of the story's I heard was like oh my god that is me! For example if you don't text him back two minutes after he texts you he automatically believes you hate him... His mother also abandoned him... Check it out

I definitely believe Tupac had BPD. If you read about and watch documentaries regarding his friendship with Biggie out of nowhere Tupac turns on Biggie because he suspects Biggie set him up. Tupac honestly had no concrete reason to believe what he did which really could've been the result of BPD splitting. Their friendship going sour is what resulted in their deaths.

I never thought I'd be applying personality disorders to Tupac Shakur.

Eminem seems like he has BPD with NPD traits mixed in there as well. His mom wasn't there emotionally for him at all and then his relationship with Kim (I think they're still married, but I'm not sure) shows classic BPD behaviors.

I can't say whether people like Eminem have BPD, its impossible to know because songs can be an expression in different ways. I don't get Eminem having BPD off Stan, but the way he writes about relationships is interesting in that sense, perhaps he at least shares a similar underlying "flavour" to how he relates to certain things in life with certain PDs. I like his music.

I don't think this particular run of songs is good for anyone remotely prone to depression to listen to in one go though.

I never really thought about Tupac having BPD. But that is interesting. Another rapper that one could suggest might have it could be DMX. He has engaged in many impulsive behaviors, emotional outbursts, drug and alcohol problems, promiscuity, unstable self image, splitting etc. I saw a few TV shows, one was couples therapy where we was there with his estranged wife and one where's he was there with his son. It was pretty revealing. He also talked about abuse he faced from his mother.
