Lexapro/Escitalopram

Postby seagreen497 » Mon Aug 19, 2013 7:33 pm

Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone's experienced Ecitalopram? I've asked to be put back on med's as my emotions have gone off the charts.

Previously I was on Citalopram 40mg, I felt in control of my emotions and I couldn't cry which made things easier in life. I haven't taken Cital's since April.

Now I'm on 10mg Escitalopram, I've read this drug is good for anxiety and OCD. Which currently are my main problems. I took the pill earlier and now I feel as high as a kite. I've never had this before so I'm going to bed. Considering I've had the 'sister' drug previously I'm shocked I've reacted this way. I have Valium/Diazepam to go with it, apparently there are some side effects which can make you feel a bit sh1tty. I'm trying not to use any other med's and to get a feel of this one.

Has anyone tried Escitalopram? Did it improve your moods? and finally if you've had the high effect when did it get better?

Cheers in advance *high* M :)

Hi Msseheffs

I am on it for 18mths now. I like it. It can make me dreamier than usual....but I still function. It is v effective at removing anxiety/weeping...and greatly improves coping skills - in my case.
I have never had that kind of high from it...altho' in the early stages I would have one or two fleeting moments of euphoria.
It is strange that having been on citalopram, it should make you feel this way.
10mg is a low dose too.
I would just enjoy it - it probably wont last.

Thanks for the quick reply;
It's not a high, high. More of a relaxed and giggly high. I spoke to the Dr regarding the dosage apparently 10mg is the usual adult dosage, 20mg being the max?
Med's are due to be reviewed in a week by the psych team, so I shall see how I feel then! If I still feel relaxed, I'm going to be very lucky.

I was on both. Years ago I was on citalopram and I had a bad reaction to it. Couldn't sleep, legs were twitchy at night, heavy feeling in my chest. I asked my dr to take me off it.

Last year they tried me out on escitalopram and despite the two being sister drugs I had a totally different reaction. I actually experienced that giggly high you speak of to the point where my friends thought I was actually high on something. It was a strange feeling. I would just giggle for no reason at all. Unfortunately it messed around with my brain ( I went to light a cigarette with a glass of tang  , kept putting perishable items in the cupboards and stashing money in dvd and cd cases ( that still baffles me. Don't know if it was related to the meds but I never did it before nor did I do it after). Had to go off them, too.

I'm finally on the one medication that has worked, Mirtazapine. My only issue is the increase in appetite, although my psychiatrist now has me on the quick dissolve tabs which according to her don't have as big an impact on your appetite as opposed to the coated ones.

Oh those giggles....yeah...I had that too...

I'm on this now, though only on a half dose as they are easing me into it.

I dont feel high, just have this tight feeling in my chest like I'm going to have a heart attack. I feel light headed too. :/

i take lexapro. it manages my depression and anxiety with relatively no side effects. I am on 10 mg, and it helps immensely. i never experienced a high with it before though. I would ask your doctor about that one. But My Bipolar is well managed with antipsychotics, except for the depression, which i need to take an antidepressant for. Was it a feel good high, or was it just feeling weird? feel good is good, antidepressants can do that. Like i took a mood stabilizer, depakote, and it made me really happy. i liked depakote, but have never experienced it with lexapro, so i don't know.
I survived psychiatric medications without getting bad side effects.

I was told to start taking Lexapro today for anxiety and depression, and took it at about 6:30 am this morning. When I got to work I had to hold back from giggling a couple of hours later a few times for some silly things a customers did. Then at lunch time I went out to join my bf and started laughing hysterically and uncontrollably because he made a small joke about his "pot belly", barely pausing for a breath for a couple of seconds in between for like 10 minutes straight... he asked me if I was high because I was acting weird, but he was glad to see me so happy.

I have taken the antidepressant Zoloft before, but it never made me feel like a laughing maniac. It's kind of a nice side effect I must say  maybe this will last
