Do you like your job?

Postby noreally_imfine » Sun Jul 28, 2013 11:05 am

I've been obsessing a bit too much lately about careers and now its more geared towards what I can handle. I think the understandings of my BPD is starting to play a huge role in jobs because i feel like i can't handle much. There was a post about good and bad occupations for those with BPD that i found interesting but not a lot of responses.

Just wondering if anyone was willing to share with me what they currently do for work, if they like it and if BPD ever gets in the way of it.

Hey,

Personally my BPD get's in the way of jobs after a while. I've been a postman, self-employed and a bartender all of them worked for me. My problem is that I just get bored with the job after a year or two , and then I just quit. I just can't stand working that job for any longer same thing goes for education, I've attended five different schools to get my highschool diploma. I just can't stick around for long.

Cheers.

For the longest time, I held my dinner fork longer than I held my job. Fortunately, my current employer pretty much tailored the job to me. I work in IT, but because I'm predominantly desktop support, they gave me a room away from everyone else, so that I could have a locking door to keep the equipment safe. This lets me escape the world.

They are also relaxed on the hours. I'm supposed to work 8-4, but since I generally start at 6, they have no problem with me leaving at 3, so I often get work done when there's no one around. It also gives me a chance to leave if I have been triggered excessively that day, without penalty (I'm on salary, and I work enough extra hours to more than make up for the few times when I have to short change them).

Plus, as the big bonus, I don't have to deal with outside customers.

Hi NRIF !

I'm a computer engineer with 6 years of experience, and I'm under intense pressure at work, to interact with different teams within my company, and I find that very stressful, because I have to interact with many different personalities. I often send out really pissed off emails to people, and my manager then "scolds" me, saying that my communication is unprofessional.

I also find it hard to go in to the office because I feel an extreme social anxiety (especially after I broke my back and had to stop working out regularly ... I was shaped like a model before I broke my back, but am a big blob of fat now, and am very conscious about that). So, I had to get a note from my psychiatrist saying that I suffer from a mental disorder and that I must work from home.

Also, my boss is three months younger than me, and is nothing more than a snobby rich kid. He is the POLAR OPPOSITE of me. He's cold as ice, and a complete macho (what society wants men to be like). I have a hard time working with him, because of that.

In short, my dear friend, it is VERY HARD for me, working as a borderline !

Anything else you wanna know ... please ask me.

One important thing I must add is: One thing I DO like about my job, is that I am, currently, training an intern for the summer.

I've always fantasized about being a teacher (fitness trainer too), and, in a strange way, that's not too different from the fantasy of being a father (passing on knowlegdge to another person).

Anyway, I enjoy mentoring this intern, who's 9 years younger than me, and I make sure to tell him about all the mistakes that I have made in my life (not just my professional life, but also my personal life), and I urge him not to make the same mistakes. I can only hope that my advice helps him in some small way.

That is one of the rare perks of my job :) So, right now, although my job is stressful, there is some meaning I find in it.
