Our family has been in family court for over 2 years which involves child custody. We have mental health professionals in our family who know we are dealing with BPD/ Narcissist in the father of the child.
Control and isolation in the beginning was a big problem.
We agreed to a parenting eval paid for by the father. The evaluator did not mention any of these obvious signs in court. Our attorney seems hesitant to mention any of these psych issues and we are not sure the judge is picking up on any signs either.
To shorten the story and get to the question:
Should we hire another attorney with a background in psychology who would better explain the disorders we are dealing with ?

Its hard to say. I think in most cases where a child is involved the law doesn't like anything to be involved in the court case that looks like its condoning one parent "badmouthing" the other parent in front of the child. Even if it's true he has BPD or NPD or both the law might not recognize the disorders as even half of the psychologists in existence don't seem to understand personality disorders all that well, probably because they haven't been around them in personal life that much. There are however I believe certain specialist attorneys with some kind of psych background who specialize in spotting and understanding people involved in court cases with personality disorders. Finding one of them might be the best bet whether they recommend bringing up the personality disorder concerns direct in the case or if they have another tactic thats more indirect if they think the bringing of personality disorders into the case argument could shake the judge out of your favor, either way it may help. In general though when it comes to family custody issues I don't think personality disorders are the topic of choice when trying to gain more custody, no matter how true it may be that the father is suffering from one unfortunately. The biggest travesty about family affair court is that the child always seems to get caught in the middle and the worst end of the stick...
