Reality Testing

Postby maerlyn138 » Fri Apr 19, 2013 10:04 pm

I find myself, as we all probably do, in the grips of delusions from time to time....OK who am I kidding, nearly all the time. My brain will run away with a thought spurred on by an innocuous remark or look. I have confronted my wife several times about these only to end up embarrased when I finally snap out of it and realize it was all a dream/story made up by my mind.

Has anyone learned any effective "on the go" reality tests to keep themselves grouded before things get out of control?

my therapist once told me to feel everything around me. all the furnishings or wall or curtains, anything and everything. this is a grounding technique to save you from flashbacks. i wonder if this would help when you are doubting reality as well? i have a lot of trouble with that as well. sometimes it helps me if i know i'm about to fall into delusions to talk to whoever is around me, about anything. it seems as long as someone is talking to me and i'm holding the conversation well, i'll know where reality is and that i am in it.
