I did a search for bpd support groups in Sydney and I must say that I'm surprised. I really expected that, for such a major city, there would be more support. Then again, I type this in Toronto, where there's also next to nothing in the way of support.

I'm in Sydney - and have openly looked to help with BPD - and find it almost impossible.

For starters, I have gone from psychologist to psychologist, and I can tell them more about BPD (or HPD) than they can tell me.

Likewise, I have never found any groups (although, I'd probably be too afraid to go to any groups, to be honest).

This city (of over four million) is crying out for a focus centre in dealing with personality disorders. Sadly, at the moment, there is none.

Honestly, I'd suggest starting one via this site...
With a smile I'm dying inside but I know I'll be just fine
I saw love not lies but I could be mistaken
Now you've gone and I dry my eyes and I'm here for the taking tonight
Feel the need for somebody tonight, I could love you forever tonight

Hi all,

Thank you for responding to my post. It’s sad to hear that there are no support groups known in Sydney, although I was already fearing this as I have searched the internet high and low and only found “this” virtual web site for BPD.

I can see that bsl9408 mentioned DBT, I have myself been to DBT at the beginning of this year. I found it really helped me put more perspective on my experience of suffering from a mental illness, and it was very comforting to be around other sufferers with BPD. The course ran for 8 month, and the one thing I was dreading the most was when it finished. I really missed the weekly meetings that gave me a bit of a relief in my up/down world.

For a while after it finished I was trying to put together a support group of sorts, however I got very little response and gave up after a few months. I’ve also tried to keep in contact with the friends I made there, but over the months that dropped off too.
I feel extremely alone in my day to day struggles with being the over sensitive creature that I now know as borderline personality disorder.

I know there is a need for all of us to feel connect to others in some way, someone else who understand how hard and emotionally testing it can be. So let me try again to start a support group. I will try in my local area to find a community center that I can hire some space for a gathering.
I am located in the inner-west of Sydney, so I will start looking.

Please keep an eye on further posts

A lot of people are in the same boat as you. I live in a country where there is only one certified psychologist who specializes in BPD, and he's almost always booked full. There's no DBT in my country so I cannot get the treatment I need. So instead of that kind of treatment, I will have to end up going to a hospital as an out patient and deal with the symptoms of BPD, not the actual diagnosis.

Hey again,

Can try putting an ad on gumtree to get some people also, I'm St George area

I'm glad you had some success with the DBT.. I guess people not keeping in touch is just typical of the disorder as well, which is unfortunate
