I see the truth isn't valued much here. by Havoctoria on Tue Nov 12, 2013 1:55 pm
I asked for proof of something someone claimed on here. They completely ignored me. Pretty much self-explantory; you're full of crap. Stop stating things as facts when they're not facts. Don't wait until you're CHALLENGED to STFU. Do it when you FIRST realize you don't know wtf you're talking about.

I find it disgusting how on this site, a person is quickly silenced if they provide OBJECTIVE FACTS that may hurt the precious feelings of some willfully-deluded sap. "Invalidation!" Well what you said was INVALID, stupid-ass, so DEAL WITH IT.

& the tone policing NEEDS to stop. You need to hear the truth. As long as I'm being HONEST, FACTUAL & SPEAKING ENGLISH, you shouldn't be offended by the blunt, uncensored truth. I think the more the truth hurts you, the more you NEED TO HEAR IT. You NEED to build a tolerance to FACTS. PERIOD. If you can't handle the truth served raw, you haven't come to terms with it yet. Sorry. You're not allowed to be blissfully ignorant around me. I baby no one.

Alternative to When You... I feel... Story by easyfromhere on Sat Jun 20, 2015 1:04 pm
This is follow on from previous post starring Victor and Victoria, the problem is that Victor is not doing his share of picking up after himself and treating Victoria like a maid.
She's not too thrilled.
Note, this isn't for people who have high levels of abusive behaviours in the relationship, more ongoing low/medium levels of conflict, these cases get help from a professional mental health worker, counsellor etc.

A different approach is with a 'story'. All good stories have a beginning, a middle and end.
Start on a positive note, in the middle slot in the issue, then to give it a happy ending. Ever read a book and the ending was poor? Endings are important. An example:

"Victor, there's not many men who work as hard as you do, you really are a dependable husband and I'm glad to have you in my life.
Lately I've been very busy myself with the kids, not feeling well and having trouble keeping up with picking up clothes and the chasing up dishes around the house, I'm hoping you can help me out a bit.
I know you understand I get tired too, you often don't come in until 7 pm but you always make time to tuck the kids in bed and read to them, I can't imagine a better father than you."

With people in a relationship that includes mild verbal abuse, the standard formula usually DOES NOT WORK, if someone is using emotionally abusive language on you, they WANT you to feel bad.... so telling them you feel 'hurt' is kinda waste of time, they have a problem and want to hurt you.
A story for this type could be:

"Victor, when I met you I was so amazed at how romantic you were, other men just don't come close to how sweet and kind you can be.
Lately I've noticed you using bad language towards me so I'm wondering whats up, its out of character and I don't like it.
Generally you frown on this behavior, its not your style, that's one of the things I respect about you, if you want to talk about it, let me know. "

Start and end acknowledges positive traits, middle the issue.
If they have none you like (ie, forced to share housing with a family member, then pick a characteristic that they value). Keep it short, to the point, and no 'feelings' mentioned. "i don't like it" offers enough information.

If you try this, give it a couple days to 'kick in' and note if there is any change.

Brit Sport channel by highdimensionman on Sun Jan 16, 2022 5:08 pm
Imagine on your smart TV you could pay 22 pound a year and get one live channel plus extended content that hosts a very good representation of British sport. This channel is limited at the high end of sport to a good quota to keep the price cost effective and more niche than competitive with bt sports or sky sports.
It also cuts costs by having some live content only live and no recording which you would need a sports package to view.
In the extended content is a good representation of more local British sporting events and up and coming. The channel is supposed to be a good representation of British sport not more comprehensive like a full sports package.
Funding
Payment plus a low degree of advertising.
Government backing for a good representation of British sport where in britain you pay 22 a year where as abroad you pay 50 or 5 per month Britain is a flat 22 and that's your year covered.
There is also a large chunk of advertising based free content with regards to extended content and shows which actually improves profits.
Mental and electronic sports can have inclusion but not priority and only British wise.
Brit Sport could also sell which you get free for your 22 1 pound content packages with memoriable matches which Freeview sky and bt can contribute to and earn a fair percentage.
What cheap as Brit who likes sports wouldn't be tempted.

WTF? by asoulfragmented on Sat Oct 19, 2013 9:48 am
Mood: Exhausted
Listening to: Blake Shelton - Sure be cool if you did

It is one of those nights where I cannot get my mind to shut up. I am so sleepy but alas it manages to escape me. Racing thoughts and the like, This is my first time online today and it is 4:45 am so I guess that would technically mean that I was not online at all yesterday. I have not been able to focus enough on one thing to read a book. That is very stressful as reading is an outlet for me, I have my youtube playlist playing on shuffle so I don't even have to make a decision about a song cause right now my mind won't let me even think on it enough. I thought coming on here and writing for a bit would make me feel better or at least give me something to do but even now it is difficult to focus enough not to stray the subject. I love music there is rarely a time in my life that music is not playing. I listen to just about every genre I can think of with the exception of polka. Lately when I try to go to sleep paranoia takes over, it seems like the moment I become "still" the $#%^ hits the fan so to speak. Paranoia, agitation, conversations in my head with more than one voice. WTF? I moved across the country and have yet to see a therapist or mental health professional for that matter. I have been off meds since roughly June. I sometimes feel like I am watching my life play in front of me like a movie without the option to react. I mean my body is reacting but I am not, what the hell is that about? The other night I went to bed around 3 am to try to sleep but the moment I stopped listening to music and reading articles online and settled down in my bed with the lights off it got ugly. First the paranoia set in, it was extreme. I felt like I was screaming inside my mind but no sounds escaped me. It seemed endless then a soft little crying voice was in my head like a thought but not my thought. Then the weirdest thing happened.... I got this mental image of a little girl crying holding a teddy bear curled up in a corner. I don't know how I knew but the little girls name is Sophia and she is 6. I have never seen this little girl before so how would I know her in my mind? Let me say this, My name is not Sophia and I have never personally met anyone by that name. After the image of the little girl left the "screaming" in my head started back up. I don't know.... I am lost and not sure what is going on. After that night I called and made an appointment with a dr in the new town I am in. I am nervous about going to a new dr, I do not trust easily and I don't know if I can open up to them. :?

How to Prevent Blue Light Destroying Our Health? by FishinSea on Thu Dec 04, 2014 2:43 am
I have searched more and more information about blue light in our daily life now. It’s urgent to be known since we live in the world surrounded with. It can be emitted from LED light, computer, smartphone, iPad, tablets, etc. I paid more attention to the link between blue light and human health. I just want to bring this collection here.

For recent years, more and more experts and professionals have been gradually increased the research in the field of light energy and vision since we are having longer and more intense exposures to blue light. Blue light is the portion of the visible spectrum ranging from 380nm to 450nm, which can have negative effects on eye health, disease, sleep, mood…You can learn more about the blue light hazard here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue-light-hazard

How Blue Light Affects Human Body?
Blue light can suppress the secretion of melatonin, a hormone that influences circadian rhythms, more powerfully and vigorously than other light wavelengths. Harvard researchers and their colleagues conducted an experiment comparing the effects of 6.5 hours of exposure to blue light to exposure to green light of comparable brightness. The blue light suppressed melatonin for about twice as long as the green light and shifted circadian rhythms by twice as much (3 hours vs. 1.5 hours). Disruptions to circadian rhythms also have been associated with a number of serious diseases, including cancer, diabetes, depression and heart disease.

1. Wreaking Sleep
How blue light affects sleep? Exposure to blue light can disrupt the body's circadian rhythm, altering the 24-hour biological clock that controls our sleep-wake cycle. Research has shown that nighttime exposure suppresses the production of melatonin, the major hormone secreted by the pineal gland that controls sleep and wake cycles. A reduction in melatonin at night is associated with subjective level of sleeplessness. Most people need at least 7 hours of rest each night. If you aren't getting that much, you may be sleep deprived, which can contribute to weight gain and even depression.
Unfortunately, many energy-efficient light sources produce high concentrations of blue light. Blue light is mostly emitted by electronic devices like computers, phones, television, etc. Other common light sources can also produce blue light. All of these can interfere with your sleep especially if you use electronic devices before your bedtime.

2. Causing Vision Problem
Apart from disrupting circadian rhythm to wreak our sleep, exposure to blue light can damage our macular health severely. The biggest threat of blue light is the role it plays in the development of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). People with high risk for the disease should protect eyes from blue light exposure urgently.
How blue light affects eyes? Like introduced above, vision problems caused by blue light have been tightly associated with technology use. Especially for those who have to work with the computer for a long time each day, they can easily get CVS (computer vision syndrome). And if you spend more than 2 hours a day in front of a computer, you have a 90% chance of developing the problem. The most common symptoms associated with Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) are eyestrain, headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes, neck and shoulder pain. Given that, it suggests that these people could protect their eyes if they wear blue light blocking glasses with orange-tinted lenses.
What Can We Do?
Research has demonstrated that negative effects on blue light exposure can also be reduced or resolved. Studies suggest neither the human cornea nor lens provides sufficient protection from blue light for our modern environment. Checking the following tips, remembering the guidelines, our body health can be improved effectively:

• Limit exposure to artificial light in the hours before bed. The last 1-2 hours before bed should be a time of winding down and preparing for sleep.

• If you need light in the middle of the ...
