Back in l967 when I first started pulling my hair, there was no internet and no place to go with these feelings and fears. I am so grateful that 50 years later, I have found all of you.
It took a long time to even know there was a name for this problem.
I was a virgin when I started pulling. I married the first guy that asked me, thinking that having sex might help me stop. It took 7 years to get out of that bad decision. Sex didn't help me stop.
Not a recommended treatment! :?

Holistic approach to Trichotillomania

:D
Hello new friends and confidants....
I have been a holistic health provider for more than 30 years, particularly involved with
Edgar Cayce materials and products, but also a much wider study. Part of it has been a motivation to heal my own life, but also to help others.
I actively work with people with HIV/AIDS and MS in my virtual healing center.
I have dealt with an intermittent issue with trichotillomania since I was 16....about 50 years!
Needless to say, I have tried a lot of methods to help myself.
I am grateful to finally find this site and learn from each of you. I will begin Vit D therapy (as a result of some posts here) and also black tea therapy, also due to one of your posts.
Today I added a new idea myself: Using Oragel ...the teething cream for babies. I tried putting it on my hypersensitive fingertips last night, and within a few minutes, they were "numbed down" and the urge to pick, chew nails and pull hair went away. I will continue to keep this handy as needed.
(Note: I did some research on line that reveals that a few folks are allergic to the "caine" ingredient in this and similar products, which could affect breathing, skin, etc. even to the point of death. Use at your own risk and monitor for side effects). I am not prescribing, just sharing my story.
I am working also with blue light therapy for depression, and www.earthing.com (orange bracelets) to ground myself during sleep, etc.
I am able to meditate on demand and go into an alpha state within seconds. Apparently the
alpha state helps us stay calm and not pull our hair.
Let's keep learning and growing (our hair!) together.
By the way, wonderful shampoo that helps hair grow back is Crudoleum Shampoo and Conditioner,
a Cayce product *mod edit*. Works great!
Blessings!
