My main obsessions at the moment are:
Weapons: I love weapons. From guns to spears, but my main weapons love is for knives. I love Balisong and throwing knives the most. Nothing is more beautiful that a well crafted knife, especially if its a balisong or a thrower. Balisong are illegal here in the UK, but I have a legal blunt trainer, also known as a drone. I have ticks, like I compulsively snap my left fingers, I can make it obnoxiously loud using any finger against my thumb, but balisong twirling and general knife twirling takes dedication and hours of monotonous practice, perfect for an aspie with my interests and it helps me curtail my snapping and other habits. I'm pretty damn good at balisong and knife twirling. Although I'm a knife freak, I love firearms as well. When I have the money I'm applying for as many weapon licenses as I can and plan on owning an arsenal as big and powerful as the law will allow. I can tell you everything you need to know about firearms, and if I can't then the thought of finding and researching something new with weapons is fascinating to me.
b]Martial Arts: Quite closely related to my weapons love, is my adoration for martial arts. I fell in love with martial arts when I was about 12 watching a Jackie Chan film called "Gorgeous." The film was actually quite crappy and boring compared to Chan's other films. I usually associate him with goofy, but well executed stunts and fight scenes on films with a comedic or cheesy story line. Gorgeous had a massive fight scene in it called Bradley James Allan/Allen (I haven't found a consistent spelling of his name) that just blew my mind. I urge you to watch it on Youtube.
Even though my obsession with martial arts is nearly 10 years old, I have however, not had much consistency with what martial arts path to follow. When I watched gorgeous I found out that, BJA, was an expert in Wushu, which is a competitive form of Kung Fu, and a lot of the Chinese martial arts cinema stars are trained in Wushu and people like Jet Li are champions at it. There were no Wushu classes in my home city. There was an Iron style Kung Fu club and a Wing Chun club and with my parent's support they let me attend the Iron style Kung Fu classes. When I was 14 my obsession with martial arts was still going strong and were paying for everything myself, giving me more freedom to choose what I wanted to study.... but I wanted to study everything, I did Aikido, but quit to do Judo. I quit Judo to do Kyokushin. I quit Kyokushin to do Shotokan. I quit Shotokan to do Taekwondo. I quit ITF TKD to do WTF TKD. I quit TKD to do Muay Thai. I quit Muay Thai in January to dedicate more time to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. If there was an Escrima or Filipino martial arts club open up in my city any time soon, I'd drop BJJ to study there immediately. FMA are a combination of my love of martial arts and weapons, plus its full contact fighting which is always fun!
It's not that I didn't want to do the ones I was already studying at the time. It's that I find so many martial arts so interesting that I want to study them all. My only problem with my existence being so short is that I wont be able to learn every single martial art. I know it's not advisable to practice too many martial arts, but I just love to experience new ones. I love getting a dusty old book about martial arts and reading the whole thing. Ki/Qi/Ch'i energy is fascinating to me. It's just my nature to be skeptial of everything supernatural. I think religion is all mental and basically a load of bollocks, and just because I find something interesting doesn't mean I should drop all logic and assume like a Christian would do, that Qi (I'm just going to call it Qi) energy is life energy and part of everything.
I must have spent thousands of hours of my life watching martial arts movies. From big Hollywood productions, to films that look like they were made on a budget of about $75.
