Think I might be bipolar

Postby JrettBolly » Tue Mar 20, 2012 3:50 am

Hey all, been lurking here for quite some time now, and been doing alot of reasearch on Bipolar Disorder. Think it's possible that I might be bipolar. Not looking for "Oh i feel bad for you" or "I'm sorry to hear that" or anything like that. Just looking for an honest oppoinion.

So on thursday I started feeling absolutley amazing. So much energy, read half of catch 22 in a day, and it's a huge book. I'm ADHD as ###$ (diagnosed), and can never pay attention to a book for more than a chapter or 2. Slept about 6 hours, woke up feeling great the next day.

Drink a little too much, and I was spose to work saturday, so had told myself earlyer in the week that I wasn't gonna go out drinkin friday. Tottally forgot completley, and the thought of work never even crossed my mind. I've never forgotten that i work b4, I work the same days every week. got to a buddies house around 3, emmiediatley decided it would be a good idea to hit the liquer board store. Wanted to do Yag Bombs. Bought a 40 of yag (for myself... holy $#%^). And needed to find redbull. Went to the nearest gas station and bought every single redbull they had in the cooler, there were 15 LARGE redbull bottles.

Ended up sharing the 40 with a buddy. Drank till about 7 in the morning. Fell asleep for 4 hours, then woke up not hungover, feeling great again, loads of energy, left for work and had a great day.

Next day I crashed, slept for about 15 hours, and now Istill feel like $#%^.

Always sorta had lots of ups and downs, just thought it was normal until I started looking up mental disorders. I go from Super happy, Loads of energy, Social as ###$, and i'll talk your ear off. to feeling like crap and super self concious, I turn into a recluse.

dunno, just wondering if these are symptoms. I know you couldn't truly tell from this one example alone, but still wondering nonetheless

I guess the important thing here is that you may feel something is wrong and if that's the case I would set up an appt with a qualified doc and have an evaluation done. In the example you provided, and don't take this wrong, when I first read your post,I thought you were just having a good old fashioned hangover. But it's all the things you experience without being under the influence of alcohol
that will matter when you talk with a doc. Having an inkling there may be something amiss is a big step in the right direction especially if it is impacting the quality of your life. We are hear to share with you and support you in whatever you decide to do. Hugs and keep us posted

Hey Jrett Bolly,

Sorry to hear that your having such a tough time. It sounds like your struggling quite a bit and I wish I could tell you if you had Bipolar Disorder or not but, alas, we can't :(

Do you think that you'd be willing to see a mental health care professional?

Take care.

Thanks for the replies, feeling quite a bit better now, back to almost a normal level I guess you could say. I've had these ups and downs b4, the reason this was brought to my attention all the sudden tho, is because i've prolly felt the best I've ever felt, and the worst i've felt (not exagerating) within the course of only one week. Yesterday was absolutley brutal. think somethings definatly up, not sure if it's bipolar tho. But yea thanks for the advice, gonna make an appointment to go see a doctor or health care proffessional or whoever.

You are doing the right thing getting g in touch with your health professional. They will be able to asses and diagnose you properly.

Remember that is could take weeks to months to get officially diagnosed with most mh problems. This is normal so don't worry if you don't get answers strength away.

All the best let us know how it goes.

Another possibility is cyclothymia. It's like bipolar but milder. You didn't mention some of the extreme things people with bipolar often deal with. But as the others have said, you need a professional to help you. It's too easy to leave things out because you don't know it's important, it's too hard for us to know exactly what to ask, and we're not licensed to diagnose you anyway.

Good luck. You seem to have a positive attitude about it. When I came to the realization that I was probably cyclothymic, I felt relieved and scared at the same time. An explanation, at last, but now what do I do? It took me a while to see anybody about it. I have so much more focus now.
