Recently diagnosed

Hi,
I had been suffering from mood swings daily and had this very horrible depression episodes for the last 4 years and very recently I was told that I had Bipolar Disorder. So it's all new. My issue is with the medication. I've been reading all this scary stuff about them. I am taking lexapro and lamictal, I've been on them for the last 5 days; but I'm really scared about them. Is it safe to take them. I know I must wait for the good effects to happen, but I'm just scared. Should I continue to take them or look for other alternatives. Thanks for reading this, I appreciate any help or commentary. It does seem like a long way to get better but I think it will.

Hey User87,

I'm sorry to hear you've been depressed for so long but it's good to hear that your getting treatment now. In regards to your question, you should probably keep taking your medication for at least 6 weeks because that's usually how long they take to start taking effect and for most of the side effects to start mellowing out.

I know what you mean. I'm absolutly terrified that one day I might wake up as an award winning novelist or poet laureate.
